9 hours for football tickets
So I just spent the last 9 hours waiting in line downtown at the ticket depot to get tickets for a football game on Dad's weekend. (WSU vs. Oregon State) Yes, you heard me, 9 hours. Overnight, on the concrete. And some people were there for 12. Does this happen at anyone else's schools? Oh, and they cost $27 a pop. Pretty steep, considering a student ticket is usually $15 or so. University Athletics knows that we are going to come, we all know that, but this was just outrageous! It wasn't even Apple Cup tickets!

Students have to pay for tickets to your schools football game?

YUCK!
If you went to a school with a losing team they GIVE away the tickets to almost everyone just to fill the seats ;)
The weather wasn't too nice last night either. I can imagine many trips were made to the Pita Pit not for food, but for substitute hand warmers. I made the mistake of going home last weekend, it was OSU Dad's weekend and I had to stay in Salem, over a half an hour away. "Beaver Fever" with the Orange and Brown makes me laugh... |

Oh, that's weak compared to what people will do here. :p There were kids camping out for over a week to redeem their vouchers for the Ohio State game. (The way our system works is that if you order season tickets, you get vouchers for every game that you turn in starting the Wednesday before the game. That way you can get a block of tickets next to your friends if you want. So these people weren't even waiting for weeks to ensure they got tickets -- they were waiting for weeks to ensure they got their pick of seats.)
My friends started camping out last Wednesday for season basketball tickets seat choice (basketball tickets work like football tickets, only you only have one seat the whole season instead of different seats at every game). Tickets don't even start getting sold until NOVEMBER. And no, my friends were not the first in line. |

I don't know about waiting in line, but tix at my alma mater run $35-65 per ticket.

at our school the policy has changed almost every year since I have been here.. they have been trying to get away from the days of camping out by students by regulating the time you can come then they do it based on a lottery or something like that.. these are free (if you have gotten an athletic card already and paid your fee)
I have always gotten student season tickets so that I can assure a ticket to the game and that will be able to sit with my friends.. you order these in the spring.. its only $7 a game.. which I think is def worth it when you dont have to ever worry about not getting a ticket.. |
Hmm...we don't have to do any waiting. But I would love to only have to pay $15 for a student ticket. But then again I'm part of a continueing NCAA Record 260 consecutive sellouts dating back to 1962!!!
As a student here at Nebraska, you have buy season tickets, no single game seats available. This year the tickets were cheaper than the last two years...we only had to pay $154 (or $21 per, plus $5 service charge for using the internet to order b/c there was no other way). If you want someone other than a full time student to use the ticket you have to pay a validation charge which is the difference between student price and face value. I had to pay an extra $34 for a student ticket I got for my little brother this past weekend. However, I only have to pay $25 for men's basketball season tickets (19 games) so I guess it all balances out. We do have it set up so that you can sit in blocks. The fraternities and sororities pair up for block parties for the duration of the season. During the ticket lottery in the spring, students can join ticket groups which are entered in the lottery as one entry, so that entire group gets tickets in a near continuous group in the stadium. |
Don't know how it is now at Ohio University, but when I was there, you just had to show your student ID.
In fact, for many years, the team was so bad that they allegedly would give a full scholarship to any student who stayed for the entire game. Just kidding, but most left after the Marching Band show at half-time. The team is much better these days. The band is still a huge draw. Now, I know that this will meet with scoffs -- but I think it's really a shame that students have to pay for athletic events at their schools. But if they didn't there wouldn't be seats for all of the big dollar alumni. Without all of that money, there might really be more parity in college sports. And the athletes wouldn't drive such nice cars. |

There were only 3,000 dad's weekend passes sold on Monday, so the rest is student seating, and reserved seating. The only other problem is after you have a ticket, you will have to wait in line at the gates before the game starts to get in. The gates open 2 hours before the game, and people get there (some, not many) the night before so they have the first spot in front of the gates. When they get in, they run straight to the 50 yeard line seats, so it is worth it. In the past couple years, depending on who we are playing, the lines have been starting up to 3-5 hours before the gates open, which is 5-7 hours before the game starts. Quote:

No charge or wait for football tickets at my alma mater. Just show up at the game, they swipe your ID, you're free to go. I think guests and non-students were like $2.
And actually, our team wasn't too bad. We're just not a Big 10 school or anything, so there was no need to be "elite" |
