Why is it?

That during the holidays, you don't hear anything GOOD or POSITIVE?

This morning, I was awakened by a Soror. She informed me that another Soror's husband had had a MASSIVE stroke yesterday. He is not expected to "make it", so the doctor's say. Mind you, these are young active people. They are older than I am, but younger in most people's mind.

So SORORS and others, please lift this family in your prayers. Soror and her husband were in the process of building a NEW home, they do not have any children, they own their own business, they are the most giving people in the world.

So why is it that these things tend to happen around the holidays?

This is not the first thing that I have heard in the last few days regarding death and sickness. What is really sad about the whole thing is that these are NOT people in their 50's, 60's, 70's,or 80's. You know! These are YOUNG people!

ALL I KNOW IS THAT, STRESS IS A MOTHER....

So please, if you will, say an extra sumthin, sumthin for those who will be spending the holidays in hospitals, etc.

First, my prayers go out to this family and all those who are experiences trials and tribulations; particulary during the "holiday" season.

Thank you AKA2D '91 for the wake-up call. I came into work this morning venting about something that I "thought" was a problem. Your posting reminds me to be humble and remember what's truly important.

Soror, I will say a prayer for this soror and her husband. My father had a stroke before Thanksgiving in 1990. He lived another four years after.

Sometimes it does seem as though negative things happen during the holiday season. We should all remember that illnesses don't know the difference between young and old. I'm 26 yrs old and my doctor placed me on medication because my blood pressure has been elevated over a period of months. I would have never known if I didn't get regular check-ups.

It is so important to take care of ourselves, and visit the doctor even if we feel fine. It is even more important if you have a family history of any disease or illness that could be prevented or treated early on.

One of my co-workers was diagnosed with hypertension at 25 and was on medication until she was 30. She now has it under control and is about to have her first child. She is a registered dietician who always got a lot of exercise and watched her diet.

As African-Americans or Black people (depending on which you prefer), we have a higher risk of certain illnesses than other groups of people. I urge everyone to stay in tune with their bodies.

I think the lord wants to show us that TIS the season, yeah to be jolly and all that but to also realize that life is precious and we better make the most of today. I have learned to count my blessing every day - the good and the bad ones ....

my prayers do go out to those that are in need of them. I, myself did not have my surgery on Monday as planned because I have a cold and I could die from general anesthesia ... I wanted to get it over with but for whatever reason the lord decided to put it on hold ... so you know I am making the most of the holidays. Be happy for the season but also remember the reason for the season.

I just wanted to let you know that Soror's husband passed away early Sunday morning.

A memorial service is scheduled down here for tomorrow morning and his final resting place will be Saturday in Birmingham.

Please keep Soror in your prayers. She will have to face ALOT from this point on...
