BET and UPN Fall Line Ups...
Have any of you seen any of the new fall lineup on BET? I hate it. I mean they've moved to Harlem to try and stop the MTV nation. I do believe they're gonna fail. I am all for supporting black enterprised, but if I don't like I don't like it. Have you seen Oh Drama? It's like a ghetto version of
The View. Who's watching them at 10 in the morning? I mean a brotha is use to seeing video's, not a talk show on BET. I mean they're okay and all but they rarely stick to the format of the show. I know it's suppose to be like girlfriends talking, but it loses me when they break out into tyrants and things that don't make sense. I loved Kim Whitley on "Sparks" and in "Next Friday" but if I here her talk about how fat she is one more time, I'm gonna regurgitate. (sp?) And one day last week, they were talking about women who have a high libido when they're boyfriends or husbands don't. They're was a lady on the who called in and said that she's the opposite of the other women. She doesn't have sex with her husband cause he's way too big. Then the lady's when on to tell her that if she had big tata's, she could strap some baby oil on them and let her man, you know what. Now I have been known to be crude on many occasions, so things rarely shock or offend me. But to talk like that on BET that early in the morning, and the show is rated G or PG or something like that. Kids could have been . me from school watching that and when Mommy and Daddy come home they got a whole lot of questions. That show "ny" with that girl Tiffany sucks big time. And that new show mirroring MTV's TRL I think it's called "106 and Park" is horrible. The host have no chemistry. But the girl is PHYNE. The only shows I watch on their are the shows from last season: Hits (hillarious, he's the black Tom Green), Rap City, and Comic View. How dare they give John Salley a talk show? I'm not hating on our people but I don't like the shows. If I find some show with some white folks and I don't like, I'll tell you I don't like that either. Now on to UPN's fall lineup. Well they might not have a lineup. The black shows on UPN are on the verge of cancellation. If you saw Tavis Smiley's show last night, you know what I mean. If not here's the breakdown. Basically UPN lost a lot of key affiliate stations who's viewership of the black shows on UPN was huge. That means lots of dollars from advertisement will be lost because of this. Now will UPN and it's parent company Viacom take a chance and keep these shows on? The jury is still out on that one. Making money is the only reason these networks are in to business. I was kind of shocked too at that show, Oh Drama. At first I was going to try to get into it cause Soror Vanessa Calloway is one of the hosts. Ya know I am about supporting my Sorors! But, dang...it is hard.

When I heard the name (Oh, Drama) I couldn't believe it. I wouldn't want to watch it. I think we deserve better.

I had to bring this one back to the top. Ok, I have tried time and time again to watch this show (Oh Drama), but after last night, I am truly disgusted. Ok, did anyone watch the show yesterday???? The topic was (I just still can't believe it) "Hoochies." That was the topic, yall!!!! As if that wasn't bad enough, they dressed like hoochies, yall. I mean, the curly haired chick had orange tracks in her hair. And that's all I have to say about that. What defines a hoochie, how do you know if you're a hoochie, and mess like that. And they had guests come to talk about this!!! I just can't take it anymore. It's just a hot mess.

I am in agreement with all of you. BET has got WAY too much bulljive programs, that if I only see 2 minutes of a show, I get disgusted. This may be an extreme suggestion, but why don't they put some game shows on there? I seen Triple Threat (1992) with Spencer Christian and it was all right, and All-Star Campus Challenge (1991), a revival of the much-popular GE College Bowl of the 50s and 60s which was really cool. Family Figures (1990) with Melvin and Mario Van Peebles, and Love Between the Sexes (1992) with Harold McCoo was downright WACK.
I got an idea: Since BET thrives on the risque, why don't they put the popular 70's game show "Match Game" on there? That would be cool. Questions such as "My wife snores too loud, so in order to keep her quiet, I have to put my ________ in her mouth." or "Hollywood is making a sequel to White Men Can't Jump. It called White Women can't ______" (btw, these were actual questions used on the original shows). If they do that, I MIGHT start tuning in to BET again. What do yall think? Rain man |

Now that Viacom (owners of MTV and VH-1) have bought it? The programming might actually get BETTER or it might get worse because Viacom may think we actually like this garbage. I understand that BET is a black station and we should support it but to be honest, I have not watched the darn channel in about almost a year in a half because I am sickened. Except for the HBCU football games, since I'm stuck in a place where I can not get to a HBCU game, I do watch the finals/bowl games on BET. This is the only channel in my area that offers that.(Exuse the grammar and bad spelling). |
It can only get better. Maybe NOW, BET will begin hosting a annual award show for music.
Maybe Viacom will fire Kim Whitley from Oh Drama... Maybe Viacom will do MORE original movies for BET... Maybe Viacom will add MORE programming and DO AWAY with the INOFMERCIALS... This may be a little off the subject, but as I looked a BET for the first time in a while, I was reminded how old I am.
I mean, what audience are they seeking with this programming? All the videos show nothing more than brothers trying to be thugs, scantly clad women (scratch that one, that's ok with me), brothers talking about what they got, and crap like that. Now I am not going to piss on anyone's parade, but I saw a video by Master P where the song is about nothing but Hummers BMW's and cash. That's the basis of the song, nothing more than that. I long for the days of Tribe, BDP, PE you know, rappers who talked about something. N4L, I might need your help rolling me into the old folks home tomorrow bra, because I have come to the conclusion that I am old. The same things that my parents use to say to me about my music, I am saying about this crap, I mean music that they are making today. No one is original, except for a few artists. If it wasn't for Musiq, Jill Scott, and folks like that, I probably wouldn't even buy R & B. Look at who is selling, Jagged Edge (I know some of yawl like this music, but they are korny, sorry) 112 - Have they come out of the closet yet? Genuwine - Has he come out of the closet yet, and given my ex-girl her lip gloss back? Plus that show that comes on during the late afternoon, with the guy and the girl. He is really tall with the braids, and looks rather korny on the show. He is really trying to be down, and doing a very bad job of it. Ok, I have ranted enough. I will stick with the BET on Jazz. As far as BET-that is hardly entertainment. They once prided themselves in not showing so much flesh in their videos-they actually had a lil' campaign where they would edit out parts on videos that showed too much skin-well I guess that's out the door cause they are just as bad as MTV and The Box. Some of ya'll may hate me for this comment, but Live From L.A. got on my last nerve. "Who in the hellll....left the gate open!" I saw in Sister2Sister that him and Sole are together and expecting a child. Is it me or does him and Sole look like Sisters? Is that an S-curl or a perm in the brothers head? Can he get it together. We can't forget about Sisqo, who in drag would look like a mini version of RuPaul. I also feel you on 106&Park hosts. I hate both Free and AJ. Yeah AJ seems like he tries too hard to be down. Where did they get them from? MTV's TRL and DirectEFX have them beat anyday. Bruh, I don't think you're old. I'm not that old and I remember BDP and Tribe.
