Question
Sorry to crash your board. I have a question and if you can't answer I understand. I understand that ADPi was originally a literary society. My question is when did your ritual develop, did the literary society have a ritual or did that come when your org decided to take on greek letters. I'm not asking for specifics just when your ritual developed. Delta Gamma started off as a similar group and they explain on their website how their ritual has evolved I was just wondering about yours. If you can help me better understand that would be great thanks.

Hi, sueali! Alpha Delta Pi has been a secret society from our beginning in 1851. We were not started as a literary society. Since we started out as a secret society, our founders had ritual right from the beginning.
Have a great day! |
Thank You so much for responding I don't know where I got the literary society idea from it must have been some one on my campus. Thank You so much for helping me.

You are so welcome! Maybe the ADPi chapter on your campus started as a local literary society and then decided to colonize with Alpha Delta Pi or something like that.

It might have also been from an article published a few years ago in Jane magazine. They had one of their reporters go undercover for sorority rush at UCLA and she actually recieved a bid to Kappa Kappa Gamma. Anyways she states in the first or second paragraph that the first sorority was founded in 1851 as a literary society. Since that is obviously us I knew that but I knew the literary society information was incorrect.

Hey sueali and everyone else!
The Epsilon Rho chapter started as Phi Delta Chi (a group of girls who did a lot of stuff on campus, not a literary society). The local Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae notice our leadership qualities and wanted us to become ADPi. |
I think I know where this 'literary' idea came from.
As you all know (& I checked, this is public info available http://www.alphadeltapi.org/wsb/inde...=UIEXT_IPP_507 here on our website) Alpha Delta Pi used to be known as The Adelphean Society. Well there is/was a literary society called "The Adelphian Society" (note the spelling difference) in Pennsylvania around the turn of the century--in NO way related to ADPi of course! Probably there is some confusion about that. |
