Largest undergraduate Zeta?
 

Had a question from my undergrads last night: Which Zeta has the most undergraduate members? We're guessing a chapter in Florida, but please enlighten us as none of us has a clue!

I think you're right that it's one of the Florida chapters (didn't we have a thread on this one time?).

I know Arkansas was one of the first to break 2000 initiates, but I'm not sure who else broke that barrier before or since.

Are you asking which Zeta has the most initiated brothers, or which Zeta currently has the largest active undergrad chapter?

I always heard Auburn had around 200 actives.

I guess Univ of South Florida. I heard they had a AM group of 60? Please correct me if I am wrong..

For a long time in the 90's it was UCF. I heard that they had dropped from 165 to around 120, but that was a few years ago.

I did hear that the largest fraternity chapter of any NIC group had around 185 members. I think it was Sigma Chi and a chapter somewhere in the south. Fraternity chapters never get larger than that usually, Becasue there are more fraternity chapters to choose from at a given school.

When I was a freshman, the UCF LXA's would always boast that they had the most members out of an fraternity on campus. I remember hearing that it was about 200 members. Whether that is true or if they were also including inactive members in that number, I have no idea. I am pretty sure they still are one of the largest fraternities on the UCF campus.

I spoke with a contact at IHQ and they told me that UCF was still the largest undergerad chapter with about 100 actives and University of Oklahoma had about 60. Of course, these numbers dont include associates.

Those numbers seem to be down.

Edited to add that I am not saying OU is second largest, I just included it here becasue I thought they were at one time. Clearly that is no longer the case.

Doesn't WPI have 100 members?

Arkansas just had gamma chi 1909 initiated in the summer at the leadership conference. But don't worry. We will break 2000 shortly.

we just had a $100000 renovation to the downstairs of our house, and i will be putting new pictures up as soon as possible.

This semester turned out great for us. We got 9 solid guys which brings us to 28 total (Brothers and AM's). At the beginning of last year we were only 9 Brothers but in a year we have tripled in size and snagged the Fraternity of the Year Award.

Chapters over 100 people
 

Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Illinois, Central Florida all have over 100 people, including associates. One way you can find this out is by looking at IFC grade reports and house numbers from IFC reports at different schools, that is how I find out that information. I was at the Auburn chapter last fall, they probaly have over 100 people now. SMU and TCU are close if not over 100 people as well. There are probaly some more chapters over 100 too, not that it really matters but that is good they have so many people that go Lambda Chi Alpha at schools. In reference to "not that it really matters" I know a lot of schools that just let people in and do not really analize their associates or teach them what it means to be a brother during the associate process and they let them in and initiate them and eventually they are not worth a crap.

I think Auburn was the first to have Zeta #2000.

My how times have changed! Georgetown College is a
small college (about 1300 students) and there have been
5 fraternities (including a local) since 1969. Today, the
average size is between 30 and 40. LXA is the largest
(barely, 1 or 2 more than the local) with just over 40
last year, down from over 60 5 years ago.

But in the mid 1970's (when the college was even smaller!),
LXA had over 120 members, and the other 4 had nearly
as much....that meant somewhere between 75%-90%
of men enrolled were in fraternities....today, its less than
40% :(

Here at Florida State we have about 150 brothers active and total over 2,300 over all the years.
