Kazaa Alternatives
Does anyone use a program like Kazaa that doesn't install random crap on your computer and cause tons of pop ups?? Suggestions welcome!

kazaa lite.

Hijack sorry
I used to think so. Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole now. Did a search on my PC (while I'd been using it K-Lite) for all files modified within the last day inc hidden/system whatever files on day when I couldn't remember a filename I saved as earlier. It'd downloaded loads of crap like cracks for random games, random porn/audio etc to a nested folder somewhere. That made me tear the program outta my machine. I wasn't gonna wait for it to download felony inducing crap unbeknown to me while I was innocently checking out music mp3s.

I've been using BearShare here lately, but sometimes I go back to Kazaa. I haven't found anything weird on my computer yet from BearShare, but that's not saying there isn't anything. Hope you find something that'll work. :)

If you have a Mac, Acquisition is good. Not only can you get songs, but files and programs as well.

Mr.ZTAngel uses AOL chat rooms. There's specific ones for downloading. The chat rooms are hard to get into because they're always full. He has some program that keeps trying every milisecond to get into a room and will put him in the second someone else leaves. Also, there's some lingo you have to learn before going into them. There's always one guy in the chatroom that has every movie, song, album, game, etc. on his computer. You request to see his list of items and then request the items you want. He then emails it to you and you download it directly off the email. Slightly safer than KAZAA since the record companies can't trace it. You could always say, "Yeah, I requested the new OutKast cd but I never downloaded it." AOL protects their users so the record companies can't trace it that well. He also deletes the files off his computer once he downloads them.

Another way to get rid of the spyware Kazaa puts onto your computer is to download AdAware. It's a program that will search through your computer's files and find all the spyware. You can then choose which spyware programs you want to delete. Running it once a week should help prevent a spyware build up on your computer.

I've been running the AdAware every day and it keeps coming up with more stuff! There must be something else going on with the computer. I've deleted Kazaa and all of its components, so maybe something else is up! I keep having programs "install themselves" onto my computer. It sucks.

I used to use iMesh because it's extremely user-friendly, but it's probably just as bad as everything else as far as pop-ups and stuff. Lately I've been paranoid about getting slapped with a lawsuit, though, so I deleted it. Wish there was some way to download without getting caught. And no, I refuse to buy the d*mn, er, darned CD. :p

You do realize that most "artists" have only 1-2 decent songs on a c.d and the rest are fillers, right? |
