Rush at University of Oregon!
Rush starts tomorrow! I'm not sure if anyone on this board is rushing at U of O, or are interested, but it should be really fun! I just graduated, but I'll be talking to the girls in my house, finding out how rush is going and will definitely let everyone know. Anyone rushing, or know of anyone rushing, in Oregon by any chance? :D

hi i was just wondering what houses are on the UofO campus. Good luck with rush.

Here's the U of O website:
http://www.uoregon.edu/~grklife/soror.html These are the chapters: Alpha Chi Omega Alpha Phi Chi Omega Delta Gamma Gamma Phi Beta Kappa Delta Kappa Kappa Gamma Pi Beta Phi Sigma Kappa |
Didn't there used to be a TriDelta chapter at Uof O as well? When/why did they leave?
|
Yah, Tri-Delts were on our campus my freshman year. The 1999-2000 school year was the last year they were there sadly. They couldn't get their numbers up enough, so all the current Tri-Delts decided to go alum. It's sad to see that happen, cause just recently Sigma Kappa also lost their house because of low numbers. Though, SK's are involved in formal rush this year, so we're all crossing our fingers that they will soon be getting their house back. They're making an amazing recovery. The last thing we want is to lose another chapter, so we're all doing whatever we can to make sure all the chapters on our campus stay strong.

SNAPS...
go to you and all the other greeks for supporting the chapter on the UO campus that is having numbers issues.
I thought that for some reason that AGD was there as well as OSU. So, what kind of legacy did Animal House leave on the UO campus since it was filmed there? Then, we can't forget the legacy of Pre, the great runner, either. Wow, UO is full of history... Take care and best wishes to all the greek groups on campus! Take care!!! |
Greeks on our campus are definitely proud that Animal House was filmed here. Though, I know there are quite a few people who are running the greek life office now who definitely try to repel those stereotypes. All our sororities have been dry for quite a while, but fraternities were just recently forced to go dry last year. Ironically, the two fraternities that wouldn't go dry, and therefore lost University support, were the two chapters that currently owned the houses featured in the movie, Pi Kappa Alpha and Sigma Nu. However, Sigma Nu has recently agreed to go dry, and now Phi Kappa Psi is taking over the Pike house and they will be dry as well. Phi Psi's were the original owners of the house, so it will be good to have them back on campus. I'm not sure what will become of the Pikes now. Sadly, their chapter hasn't been as strong since they agreed to stay a wet house.
I'd be interested to see if the fraternities on our campus have overall gotten smaller or bigger since the dry houses came into effect. It's hard to say, though I do miss the days when parties and functions didn't have so many rules and regulations. Some fraternities don't even participate in mixers at all, just because it's too big a risk. It takes a lot of fun out of the whole thing. |
p.s.
Rush is going great here so far though. Unfortunately, numbers are down...only about 300 girls signed up for rush compared to about 500 last year. A lot of us think it has a lot to do with the $30 fee to go through recruitment. It was only $20 last year. Hopefully it will help with retention, cause if you're willing to pay $30, then you probably are more willing to hang in there throughout the week. So we'll see how the higher price effects the end results. Tomorrow's pref night!! Our house had a 82% return rate after Activity's Day, so it's definitely exciting. I'll let you all know when I hear about the final results for every house. :)

It's kinda weird how a lot of campuses are saying how recruitment numbers are down...here at Arizona the numbers were way up. We were expecting about 750ish which is what we had last year and we ended up with 850. Plus we have a steep recruitment fee compared to a lot of schools. It was $110 when I went through and I'm pretty sure it's gone up...Oh and the Phi Psi's are coming back to Oregon, yay! My boyfriend told me about that a while back (since he's a Phi Psi) and he's excited about another Pac-10 chapter. Good luck to all Oregon sororities during recruitment...seeing as how there has to be at least one girl from my high school in each chapter...

Yah, it's very strange how recruitment numbers were lower this year. There have been steadily more and more girls signed up for rush every year since my freshman year. All of us are just trying to speculate how and why this could happen this particular year. Our campus is definitely very liberal, so there's not exactly a large amount of campus support, but then again it's been like that for years and years, so why this year would it be down? I think on this campus since students are more apt to be on the way liberal side, it takes more to convince people to rush. Something like a $30 fee might not be all that much, but on our campus it may make a difference between signing up for rush and not signing up. It's really the best theory we can come up with.

News?
KDbutterfly -- what's the news???? I'm dying to hear how you all did!!!
|
Ah! Me too!!! Bid day starts in about 20 minutes, and a couple close sisters in the house have promised to call me afterwards to let me know how all the houses did. I will let you know the second I find out :D
|
Finally some news on how my house did! Still no word on the others, but hopefully I'll find out later tonight. Well, quota was set at 23, and we got quota! We got every girl we wanted, so I'm so happy about it. It's so weird, cause last year quota was 36! That's okay though, cause it sounds like everyone loves all the new girls in our house. Quality over quantity. I'll let you know when I find out how all the other houses did. :D
|
Congratulations on a successful recruitment KDbutterfly!
