Alumnae Relations

Hey guys,
I am our chapter's new alumnae relations chair, and I had a couple of questions. Our advisor really really wants to strengthen our relationship with the alum, and I've been a sister since April so I don't know many of our alum, much less what our relationship with them is like. Do any of ya'll have a really good relationship with your alum? What do you do for/with them? How do you keem them updated with the chapter? Thanks so much!

LIOB,
marie

My chapter has a yahoo groups list that anyone (alums or collegiates) can join. Our Corresponding Secretary, who's in charge on alum relations, is able to easily e-mail and contact alums to let them know what's going on at the chapter. She also puts together a newsletter about once a semester and snail mails it to all of the alums. I don't know how big your chapter is.... ours has only been around for 11 years, and been about 40 or so actives every year....so there's not a whole lot of alum to contact. Maybe something like that could work for you?

As an alumni myself, I can tell you that there are a couple of things I really like to see- some kind of newsletter ( and remember, not all of your alumnae have computer access, so you have to snail mail occasionally) and a reunion day. If yo have a chapter association, ask the CA president to help you put this together (and if you don't know what a CA is, contact executive office)

Reunion days are the BEST! You get to see all of the women you knew so many years ago, and it re-establishes the bond you have with your chapter of initiation. Bring out those old composits and scrapbooks! Take pictures! And most of all make sure you tell them how much you appreciate the effort they took ot come out for the event. With so many things in everyone's life these days, it's a special effort to go back to school for your sorority no matter how much you love it.

One other idea- in your newsletter, why not mimmick the University and have a delegate from each pledge class who reports on their group? This will take some time to put together, but if you do it right, it makes the job of every alumnae relations chair that comes after you SOOO much easier.

Have fun!
