A question about make-up
 

I was wondering are you suppose to put you eye liner on before you put on you eye shadow or are you suppose to put on your eye shadow then eye liner?

I've always wanted to know.

I'm trying to improve my eye make up skills

i've always learned to put eyeliner on first, then shadow - somewhat like lip liner, then lipstick or gloss.

it's always worked for me, but i could be doing it backwards too :)

For a long time I put eyeliner on first, then read a magazine article that said you should put it on after shadow, because if you put liner on first the shadow covers it up.

It depends on what kind of look you want - if you want to be more subtle put the liner on first.

Since I started wearing makeup (waaaaay back in the day!) I've always put shadow on first and then eyeliner... I remember reading it in one of those beauty magazines... now I hardly wear eyeliner anymore

For as long as I've worn eyeliner, I've always put eyeshadow on first, then eyeliner. Not sure if it's the proper way, but it's the way I like to do it.

I would guess you'd put it on before eyeshadow, but i've never worn eyeliner ever. I am too scared to. :eek:

Make-up is like art. There are always going to be different ways to get different looks.

Putting the eyeliner on before allows you to blend it into the rest of your lid with shadow. Remember to let the liner set before applying shadow.

Putting the eyeline on after is if you want a dramatic effect, and the line to be noticable. No room for mistakes with this method.

I put my liner on before my shadow because I don't have an even hand when applying my own make-up. It allows me to blend so that it looks even. (I might just be a perfectionist, and can't stand it when I think it looks uneven ;) LOL)

My friend, who is a Mary Kay consultant, says eyeshadow first, they eyeliner! The reason is that there are different colors of eyeliner and they can really bring out your eye color if you do it right.;)

I do shadow first then eyeliner.

I guess I'm a little strange. I always do eyeliner first, then eyeshadow, and if I want my eyeliner to look darker or more defined, I go back over it again. If I mess up with the first line, I can cover it a little with the eyeshadow, then fix it up with the second one. I figure I'm one of the only people in the world who actually does it this way, though!

I was just wondering what eyeliner you all use because a few have said that they sometimes mess up when applying it. I've never messed up using mine-- I use New Black from Clinique... it's super easy to apply, so just wanted to suggest that for you!

I use Estee Lauder's Automatic Eye Pencil. My old roomate's now husband's mom (there's a chain for you! :p) used to be a regional manager for Estee so the majority of my makeup has been supplied by her. It's a good think I like it, b/c i have enough to last me a long time!

MAC liquid liner. I love that stuff- it gives an intensely dramatic line.

I do shadow first and then liner. I wear less makeup now than I used to, though, and now I just use eye shadow as liner. It's easier and more natural looking.
