Question about alumnae advisors

Can a current alumnae of an NPC Org serve as an advisor to another NPC org if there is not a collegiate chapter of their org on campus? I hope you guys understand my question:)

I think this varies from organization to organization.

I would check with your HQ.

My collegiate chapter had a non-Greek woman as our General Advisor for a while.

And the chapter that I currently advise has a campus advisor who is a member of another NPC sorority.

Good luck!!

ASA has had females from other NPC groups, non-Greek females and even men serve as advisors. Needless to say, they cannot be present at rush parties, membership selection or ritual.

At a lot of colleges, you just don't have the option - I know that we had to have a full time faculty member as advisor, mandated by the school.

What is wrong with Male Advisors with Womens Organizations?

Actually, with the situations on many Campi, I dont think it would be a bad idea where No House Mother is to Not have a Female Advisor. It might help keep some in line and teach a few manners and etiquite:) :)

I know that this is the same for my school. I think we are the only chapter to have a member of our sorority as an advisor--we're definately the only chapter to have an alum of our chapter as an advisor. Our advisor graduated from our chapter, went to grad school, and is now a professor in the Chemistry department. She's really cool. It's nice because she can do double duty--be the faculty advisor for the school, and she serves on our House Corp for the sorority.

I met a woman who is an advisor to one of Alpha Phi's chapters, but is also an advisor to a different sorority at a different campus. I didn't really get it though because it was a "deaf" chapter. I think it was Tri-Delta. The campus where she does this she works at, and there is no Alpha Phi chapter on that campus, so I don't see the problem with it.

Ok, let me see if I understand this...
Depending on campus, if you are an alumnae of ABC org and was asked to be an advisor of XYZ org than that is not a problem or conflict of interest...again depending on campus and HQ?

Correct.

One deciding factor may also be whether or not there is a chapter of ABC at the same school. But, if there was, I guess there wouldn't be any question........:D

To clarify a bit further:

To serve on a national sorority advisory board (House Corps, Alumnae Advisory Committee), you DO need to be a member of that sorority (at least for Pi Phi).

To be a faculty advisor or university advisor, you DO NOT need to be a member of that sorority, nor is being a member of another sorority a bar to you.

I think it depends more on the organization. I can tell you that my org allows women from other sororities to advise chapters as campus advisors--but we also try to find a local member to supplement that advisor.
