Mixed Drinks

I was gonna post this under one of the "diet" threads, but decided to make a new one. I want to lose about 5 pounds so I can fit into this really cute dress that was given to me...the dress is a 2 but I've gained a few pounds over the summer and am more of a 4 now...anyways, I'm not a real big drinker, but I do like having a few mixed drinks when I go out to the bars. My question is which mixed drinks are lowest in calories and which ones are the highest? can an alcohol/nutrition saavy person help me here? :)

my advice would be to avoid anything sweet and fruity - fruity drinks have mondo calories!!!

maybe try something and diet? like jack and diet coke?

You wear a 4? I'm jealous ;)

Avoid beer (except light beer), champagne, dessert wines, liqueurs, and any mixed drinks with fruity or non-diet soda mixers.

Dry table wine and light beer are ok. So is anything mixed with diet soda. Things like gin, vodka, whiskey, etc. are all ok, so something like a martini would also be a good choice.

Don't drink too much though - it's empty calories.

My girlfriends swear by rum and diet coke, I prefer absolut citron and soda with a couple squeezes of lemon. It's very refreshing and super low cal-compared to other drinks!

Yeah I'd stick with the diet cokes and liquors. Maybe a glass of wine here or there.....and Michelob Ultra, even though you might as well just drink water:p

I like vodka and cranberry's with a squeeze of lime. I recently tried Danzka vodka...grapefruit flavored vodka. Didn't know if I would like it but I tried it and loved it! Plus vodka supposedly has less carbs than other liquors so that is the added bonus. If you don't want juice, you could try it with tonic instead.

What is absolut citron? I don't think I've ever had it. I also like diet coke and rum, but some of the places I like to go to never seem to have diet sodas

i usually drink stoli vanil and diet coke.

TriDeltaGal 09-29-2003 08:53 PM

Mu agd.... I really like that drink too!

My personal fav is smirnoff rasberry with 7-UP...I don't know though, does 7-UP have a lot of calories? That really isn't my first concern when I go out drinking...:D

mu_agd 09-29-2003 08:59 PM

i always drank stoli vanil and ginger ale, but i stopped because of all the calories in ginger ale and switched to diet coke. not sure about the calories in 7-up though.

If I'm in the mood, I usually have a Absolute and Coke.

HA

Anyway, rum and diets are good, and diet coke is probably the only diet drink they'll have there. Rails mixed with fruit juice probably wouldn't be too bad either. I'd stay away from sours and mixes. I also recommend gin and diet tonic, although that's usually something you have to make for yourself. I've never been to a bar that carries diet tonic (and I go to a lot of bars).
