13 years of Solidaridad, Inspiracion, and Amistad
I know I'm new to GC, so many of you are not familiar with me or my sorority, but I still had to share with everyone . . . THIRTEEN years ago today, on September 29th, 1990, my precious and rare organization was born. For thirteen years, Sigma Iota Alpha has been diligently working to uplift the Latino community and the community at large while promoting academics, leadership, professionalism, and sisterhood. Unfortunately, I cannot be with any of my sorors to celebrate this VERY SPECIAL anniversary (13 founders, 13 years) because I am in China, but it's a GREAT feeling to belong to such an extraordinary organization full of extraordinary women. Not to toot our own horn or anything, lol, but I am just feeling the SIA love today and I'm REALLY wishing that I could be home right now sharing this special day with all of my hermanas.
Happy THIRTEENTH Anniversary to all of my SIAsational sorors!! Semper Unum et Inseparabilis |
Congratulations!
Here's to many more!:) |

THANKS :D
Thanks lovelyivy and serenity!
I'm sure you can both feel me on this, but I HATE the "sorority life" image that everyone tacks on to our hard-working organizations!! People do not seem to realize, or sometimes straight up don't believe, that LGLOs and BGLOs really ARE about community service. I wore a pin of the SIA crest all day on Monday because it was founders, and a Chinese man at work asked me what it was, so I told him. As soon as I MENTIONED the word sorority, an American man I was working with started making so much fun of it, started talking about our "house", frat boys, drinking, etc. I explained to him that we are a service based organization, and he was like "Oh sure, that's what they all say, but we all know they're all about drinking and partying." When are people going to start recognizing the moves that LGLOs and BGLOs are making in the community!! Of course we like to go to parties and get our stroll on once in a while, but that is NOT our focus by any means. Its just frustruating at times that many social organizations have given all GLOs a bad reputation. WHATEVER, I'm not letting it bother me too much, I'm still rockin para around China and celebrating our THIREEN years!! EEEEEIIIIIAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! sorry, but sometimes I still feel like a neo! (and, as a matter of fact, I was awarded the "neo at heart" award by my grad chapter this summer lol) :D |
Congratulations on the celebration of your founding! Stay strong and proud. Yes, the stigmas still survive, but the sisterhood will thrive:D
