Minors

Hey all. Just this week I decided to be a history major. Orignally, I was an Agricultural Engineering major with an emphasis in Systems and Mechanics. But, I hate math and the thought of doing it for the rest of my life made me ill! I want to work for NASA, and history is a good basis for a gov. job(plus, i'm super interested in it). But I would like to have a minor to help beef it up. I want to work in the missions operations/ management side of NASA. What would you suggest as a minor?

Whoa...NASA! That sounds awesome! I'm always a big fan of foreign language minors...mine was French, but you should probably pick one that's a little more in demand, like Japanese or Spanish or Russian (since you might be working with the space program ;) ). I've always heard that foreign language proficiency is a good thing and makes you more hireable...

Yea, with a history major, a foreign language minor is a good route.

I did German as my minor.

It might not help career but...

I have an ethical studies minor... I mean, it may not help out your career on its face... but, I think i have learned valuable lessons in taking Ethics classes that maybe interviewers may recognize as strengths, you know? Maybe it could be impressive enough for employers to take your candidacy more seriously. I know that in my last job interview, the guy was interested in exactly what Ethical Studies was and we got into a lengthy conversation about it... after i secured that job, he admitted to me that my eloquence in explaining the value of my major impressed him.

Yay language folks!

We didn't have minors, but I took enough classes to have been considered an Italian minor at most other schools. It helped me out so much living in Rome, and my current job now is translating texts in Italian, along with reading books in Italian for information we might need. It also has helped me understand written instructions in French, Spanish, and Portuguese, as well as understanding some Latin phrases. :D

yay for language minors! (and majors too! lol)

I actually have 3 minors -- Italian, Translation (French/English), and music.
I'm a French major, and want to go into translation. I'm also taking Spanish courses.
