R.i.p.

I know this has been mentioned in all the other threads but WTF?????

Why are there so many people passing away lately? So many celebrities in like the last month! And many of of them were in their 50s. But not only the celebrities, but everyday people too! I've known of more than 5 people who have passed the last few days.

God, what is going on up there?
 :(

people die every day...its a fact of life..the only difference is you knew these people/they were famous..look inthe obituaries and every day in your area at like 20-50 people have died..this is not a new phenomenon

note: this wasn't meant to be bitchy, but it just seems whenever theres an influx of celebrity deaths someone has to raise the issue of "what is going on??" when the reality is nothing has changed..people are always dying.

PM_Mama, I said the EXACT same thing yesterday. This year would have sucked enough for me if just David Brinkley would have died. But it hasn't been just him, it's a bunch of other famous people I really liked, plus an aunt and great aunt that I love dearly, plus some family friends.

I am christening 2003 the "Sucky Deaths Year." :(

Always told it comes in 3's! Mom was right!:(

Now if that Axiom is true, you better hope I live to 156!

Why,:

A GCer , a LXA, A Customer, or a no name slob might shoot craps! Hope it is a no name slob!:D

I just find it odd that they're passing in twos. First Johnny Cash/John Ritter. Then George Plimpton and Robert Palmer. I know that there were two others before Cash/Ritter passed away, but I can't remember who they were.

Everyone knows that. The thing that I think is shocking a lot of us is the relative youth health of some of these people. With the exception of Johnny Cash, most of the people were young and appeared to be in great health. Even George Plimpton was 76, but didn't appear to be ill at the time of his death, and Robert Palmer and John Ritter were younger than my parents. Even looking in the obituaries, you rarely see more than 1 or 2 people under 60, let alone 55.

We all know the reality hasn't changed. Just seeing a rash of celebrities, assumingly with access to the best healthcare, dropping dead at a young age is a little disarming. If all of these people were in their 80s and 90s, it wouldn't be shocking.

I know. I got out my DVD of Singin' In the Rain and watched the "Make 'Em Laugh" scene and wanted to cry, I felt so sad. :(

I am wondering what is going on myself... my exboyfriend died in a car accident Friday night I just saw him last weekend, he works at a local bar and everyone knows him...
I am just in shock... i just saw him.

At the rate we're going this year, the Academy "In Memoriam" section will have to be a seven hour miniseries.

Think of all the people from movies that have died this summer- Kate Hepburn, Leni Reifenstahl, Donald O'Connor, John Ritter, Bob Hope... (Not all of them were members of the Academy, though, so they won't all me memorialized in the Oscar telecast.)

I about cried when I heard about Donald O'Connor today. I love Singin in the Rain.

Personally, I've had a couple of close hitting deaths myself, too.

Celebrities, I am not so much concerned about. My Gamma Phi chapter had a bad bad summer though. My boyfriend and quite a few grandparents are no longer with us, and there are a lot of other people in bad medical conditions. People die at 50. People aren't supposed to die at 23.

It's so sad...

The world's oldest living man died today at what? 113 years old, I think...

Apparantly, he had just finished his shift as an official greeter at a Wal-Mart in Japan...:p
