Scavanger Hunt
Hey all
Monday we have a sisterhood meeting and I would like to send the actives on a scavanger hunt. We did one last semester and it was SUPER fun! Any ideas on the kind of items I should have them get? |
I see you are a local, but be careful.....Scavenger hunts are considered hazing...
Clear it with your Greek Life office first if you want to cover all your bases... Now, in my PERSONAL life, my job asked me to organize a scavenger hunt for co-workers as a team building event.... I had my co-workers do silly things and take pictures at the sites they went to...They had 3 hours to complete the list and get back to my manager's house for a BBQ...Every team was given $20 to help them complete all tasks... Here is the list, just so you can get an idea. The "bonus" meant they got more points to their total score if they brought the items listed back to the rally point: Directions: Take a picture of your group (ALL GROUP MEMBERS MUST BE IN THE PICTURE) doing the following activities: • Standing at the front desk of a hotel 10 point BONUS: a hotel directory • In line to buy a movie ticket with popcorn and soda in hand 15 point BONUS: old fashioned popcorn bucket • Posing in front of a fountain, standing under umbrellas 10 point BONUS: having a stranger pose with you, also under an umbrella •Playing skeeball 15 point BONUS: prize tickets or tokens from establishment •All team members running the bases on a baseball field 5 point BONUS for each additional piece of baseball equipment in the picture •Walking into a subway station 10 point bonus: dressed in business attire 5 point bonus: getting a bus transfer •Feeding ducks at a lake 5 point bonus: bringing back a feather •Forming a “cheerleader” pyramid 10 point bonus: if there is a pom pom in the picture •Taking a picture with someone famous 15 point bonus: shaking hands with them •Posing in front of an eatery in the mall (name of establishment must be visible in picture) 10 point bonus: If you get an employee to pose with you •Team members with their feet in a swimming pool 20 point bonus: beach ball in the picture •Posing in front of a personalized license plate 10 point bonus: Car does not belong to someone you know •Sliding down a slide 10 point bonus: if one person is wearing a mask •Riding on a child’s coin operated ride (like a rocket ship or merry-go-round) (NOTE: separate pictures of each team member is fine (BUT OF EACH OF YOU) because you all won’t fit on it together at once) 25 point bonus: If one of you is holding a big “lolly” •Take a picture with another company manager or supervisor 5 point bonus: If you can get them to do a silly face •In front of a “globe” 10 point bonus: If one of you is holding a suitcase •In front of a rock climbing wall 5 point bonus: If one of you is up on the wall •Standing next to a farm animal at a petting zoo 20 point bonus: If animal is eating out of one of your hands •Take a picture with the members of the other 5 teams •Pose with Dave (an employee) at the Splash Park @ the soccerplex (THIS IS TO BE THE LAST PICTURE YOU TAKE. SEE BELOW INSTRUCTIONS!) You all need to be at the Splash Park by 3pm SHARP to take the last picture or else you will be docked 5 points for every minute you are late. Directions to the cookout will be given at this time. ***1 extra bonus point for each DIFFERENT menu or match book you bring back*** |
I realize that scavenger hunts for New Members is considered hazing, but is it considered hazing if it's all-chapter event?
I've been on some pretty fun scavenger hunts! (not while in school, though) |
Sigma Alpha a national organization, www.sigmaalpha.org We have done scavanger hunts before. We do them as actives (not an MC activity), only nobody is "forced" to participate. We usually do them for sisterhood meetings once a year, twice if the girls show interest. So I don't think hazing is an issue. Our nationals was here for a visit a few weeks ago and they saw pictures from a previous scavanger hunt, and didn;t say anything to us. So I think if the proper steps are followed everything is OK :) Just looking for some fun new ideas is all.

Well, I'm glad it's ok for you all! I love doing them...But, my chapter got in trouble doing one as a sisterhood activity (entire chapter participate) and ever since, we just said "Better safe than sorry..."
HAVE FUN!!! |

I think you get the point without me reinventing the wheel, but the bottom line is our sisters' safety... |
from previous experiences I would recommend that:
~there be NO driving. people get too competitive and it gets dangerous ~do not involve anything where you might potentially harm someone or something ~no stealing (we never did this one, but look at sorority life 2) ~if the group is big, don't encourage things like having people all pile into the back of a strangers truck....you just might end up breaking the tailgate off the guys new truck! |
