The gap is being closed in......Gore vs Bush

As of right now, Bush only has a 341 vote lead on Gore. 62 of the 67 counties in Florida have reported. Go Gore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!! And in the words of the great Jesse Jackson (NC A&T SU alum) Keep Hope Alive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monique 11-09-2000 11:43 PM

Mann...If Bush wins this election, then it will be really unfair..The whole Fla thing was soooo wild..I hope he gets what he deserves....TO LOSE

Supermodel1908 11-13-2000 02:47 PM

BASICALLY!!!

mojo 11-13-2000 05:36 PM

If Bush wins it will be unfair. If Gore wins it will also be unfair. At least if Bush wins, our nation will stay prosperous and safe. Yes, let's keep hope alive by hoping Bush wins.

Monique 11-13-2000 09:22 PM

Mojo i'm kind of curious; why would you want Bush to win?

Supermodel1908 11-14-2000 02:25 PM

Yeah, I'm curious as to why you feel Bush is so great. However, it is your opinion which you are entitled to. I myself am a card carrying Democrat!!

Good afternoon ladies,

If I may be so bold as to interject. Why are we so quick to take up the Democratic banner? Now before I get called all kinds of names, I am a registered Democrat, and have voted that way since I was 18. But my thing is, the only time that Democrats want to talk to us is when it is election time.

Also, why do we jump all over someone if they don't tote the party line? We have problems throughout all four years, but the only time we see Democrats is when they need a vote.

While I don't advocate voting for Republicans because at least the Demos act like they like us, I believe that we should make the Democrats work a little harder for our vote. Every 4 years it's a booty call from the Democrats. Shouldn't we at least ask for dinner and a movie?

I think that we allow ourselves to get too wraped up in this hype. We are told that we should vote Democratic, and we go to the poles like mindless drones to carry out our marching orders.

I heard a very good quote a few years ago. "the African American community has no permanent friends in either party. What we do have is permanent interests, and the party that is seeing to those interest should get our vote."

I love Jesse and he has done a lot for this country, but sometimes I believe that he shouts sometimes just to be shouting and to get attention.

That's just my perception of the whole thing. Let the recount go on, let's find out who has the most votes, and call it a day. But to tell you the truth, no matter who wins the white house, black folks are always going to be on the short end of the stick.

Peace

MN

MN I see your point. I'm a Democrat as well, but when the Republicans held their primary here in South Carolina, my mother and I participated by voting for John McCain. We did so because if a Republican was destined for the White House, we would rather see McCain as president rather than Bush. It was like choosing the lesser of two evils.

mgdzkm433 11-14-2000 04:22 PM

my thought is, it's sad we are forced to vote for the lessor of evil's. It's too bad someone good can't be in politics. I voted for Ralph Nader because I believe in what he stands for, but I too am registered as a democrat. I just couldn't bring myself to vote for the democrat this year. I didn't believe in what he was saying, but if I HAD to choose between one or the other, Gore would be it. I just wish the phrase 'choose between the lessor of the two evils' didn't exist.

Please don't take my words out of context. I used the term in reference to the primary between candidates of the same party, not the election itself. The Republican platform does not reflect the direction I wish to see our country move in. However, I realized that the possiblity existed for a Republican victory. Therefore, I wanted to have a say in who would be the Republican candidate for president.

mgdzkm433 11-14-2000 05:55 PM

Oh, I understand that! Totally! I didn't mean to sound disrespectful, and really that comment wasn't directed toward you or what you had to say. Your saying the words 'lessor of the two evils' is something we hear a lot about the two main candidates. Your comment just sparked my wheels to get turning. I just start wishing that in my lifetime we start picking candidates based on how good they are rather than how bad the opposer is (again, not directed toward your comment, I realize it was in the primary). I've heard a ton of people say, I've voting for Gore because I don't want bush to win. And that's fine, your voting for who you'd like to see president, but on the other hand, I'd like to hear, I'm voting for Gore because he really knows what he's doing and really wants to take this country in a better direction. I guess I'm hoping for a miracle. In my opinion, your attempt to get McCain in and keep Bush out is thinking ahead. I can totally understand where you are coming from, and I agree with you. The primary is just that, and later you can vote for the guy you favor most. So I'm sorry if I came across as being negative. I didn't mean it that way. I was just in an idealistic world at that time. To be honest, I had second thoughts about voting for Nader. Not becuase of him, but because I don't want Bush to win. I knew that Nader didn't have a chance, so I thought of voting for Gore to keep Bush from winning. I didn't even really make my decision until I was staring at the Ballot. But in the end, I decided to vote my concious (which I can't spell, forgive me). So really, my comment wasn't directed toward you, your comment just got me thinking about how I wish voting was something more positive. We here people talk about how it's our duty, but every election year, people groan and moan about it. They don't want the commercials (which I hate too), they don't like the new programing, the debates. They hate to hear about politics and it's all becuase we really can't get anyone in Washington that isn't crooked. Our country was proud of it's government, they enjoyed politics, they strived for perfection. I think our founding fathers are rolling in their graves! It's just too bad our country has learned to hate our government over the years.

I'm neither a Democrat nor Repblican. I am a registered independent. I vote for the best man running. To vote for a party is insane is that's not the best person for the job.

mccoyred 11-17-2000 11:37 AM

I am also a registered Independent but I normally vote Democrat. My rationale is that when you are registered for one party "they" act like they already have your vote in their pocket. Just look at the mess in Florida. When you are Independent, both parties have to woo you for your vote. It makes them work a little harder.
