Newsy Stuff

Sometimes, little things happen to each of us, and we really don't have a place to tell anyone. I thought it might be nice if we could do that here, especially if it's something you only want to share with your sisters, not the whole GC crowd. But no ritual! ;)

I had a major triumph today. Being very fair, a redhead, and a former life guard, I had a skin cancer removed 18 months ago. I AM CLEAN!! I will still have to be checked every year (instead of 6 months, woo hoo!), and have another "probably nothing" biopsy to undergo, but I feel as if a 200 pound weight is off of my shoulders!! Praise the Lord!!

Honey, as the daughter of a redhead, I know what you are going through! Congrats! I know it is a huge weight lifted off your shoulders.

And remember--- SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN SUNSCREEN!

Thank you!! There was a poster of a baby girl with the face of an old woman, saying something about how badly your skin can be damaged by the age of 18. I carry a Neutragena facial sunblock in my purse ALL of the time! It's one thing to have a little "divot" on my back; it would be quite another thing if it was on my nose!

It doesn't help that there's melanoma in my family - at least 4 generations that I know of. This whole episode has really made me wake up and smell the sunscreen! :)

So glad that everything's turning out for the better, Honey! :)

Good news report for me of the day: I scored over a 100% on my Marriage and the Family Exam and my stats exam for today was pushed back until Monday, yay! :)

5K Run for the Cure

A friend of mine, a Tri-Delta Alumna from Cal State Long Beach, experienced a breast cancer scare in 2001, and now she is running in a 5K to support the Komen Foundation.

Please pass this link on to those who might contribute, andwe can help my friend Rita raise money to run for a cure for this disease.

Thank you!

honeychile:
Wonderful news. I've actually been through exactly the same thing myself and so far I'm also clear. Thank God. However, I cannot say enough about sunblock: need it, wear it, live it, love it!
Thanks for sharing such good news with your sisters.

Definitely! :)

Other bit of news...I got fitted for contacts last week and have been struggling to get them in (scared to death to touch my eye!) I was fianlly able to get them in today, so I've been wearing them since about 11 this morning and it's so wonderful to not have to have glasses on 24-7 :D

It's a whole new world, isn't it? What type of lens did you get?

I had LASIK done two years ago - one of the best moves I've ever made in my life! The deciding factor was when I got up in the middle of the night in a hotel (I travel in preparation for my future career), walked smack into a wall and broke my orbital bone! It is pure heaven to get up and SEE!!!! :)

polarpi 09-26-2003 03:02 AM

I got a soft lens....getting them in was pretty difficult (as are getting them out), but I kept commenting today about how odd it was to not be wearing glasses :)

I have to go back and see the doctor tomorrow after I've been wearing them for 4+ hours....I have an astigmatism on one of my eyes, and he's hoping that he won't need to do anything more than the contacts I got.

ADPiSAI 09-26-2003 12:14 PM

polarpi, what brand did you get? i have an astigmatism too, but i think i'm allergic to the brand i have now, or something... i'm trying to see what my other options are.

polarpi 09-26-2003 05:03 PM

Honestly, I don't know what brand they are. These were actually supposed to be my "trial" pair before the doc ordered my real lenses, but today, I lost one of the contacts....I had to go in, and they're ordering a replacement lens, but now these are going to be my permanent ones, and I can't wear them until I get the replacement lens which we don't know when it'll be in...yippee
