Nostalgic?

Everyday at noon, WNNX out of Atlanta (the channel I listen to online) plays a RetroLunch music program. They play old Cure, The Smiths, Depeche Mode, etc. All these bands that I first got into in college, so naturally, I'm completely yearning Providence and miss it so much!

What makes you nostalgic for childhood, HS, college, etc?

Like I've stated, music pulls me right back to the past!! :D

I'd have to agree with you. Music does it everytime. Also, looking at old pics and HS yearbooks.

Now that I'm living back home, when I drive past parks or my high school and middle school I get nostalgic.

Music does it for me too... different songs will remind me of college freshman year parties.

I take A LOT of pictures, so it's always funny to see how much I've changed from high school til now.

MeLikey, maybe you can answer this since you've been gone from home and are now back - also for anyone not living at home and make visits back. . .

Do certain things look smaller? There's a street that my great-grandmother used to live on. Growing up, it looked like it was at least a mile long! Now when I go back, I realize it really isn't that long at all. How about your old HS? Gym? Corner stores, etc., etc.

THIS IS SO TRUE!!

When I was back in RI last year for a job interview, I drove down Airport Road from TF Green to go to Gregg's, and I remembered the distance b/w the airport and Gregg's being MUCH farther than it actually was!! AMAZING!

But in some ways, it actually seemed bigger...

*SIGH* I miss RI!! :(

Yes, things do seem smaller, esp. my own backyard!!! I can remember playing softball catch, croquet, and bocci in my backyard, and now I'm like damn, it looks small.

When I drive past this park that I used to have cross country meets in, I'm like wow, it doesn't seem that long, but it definitely seemed that way when running it.

I haven't been inside my high school gym since I graduated 4 years ago. But when I was in college and visited my elementary school I took a peek inside my gym and that was a huge shock-- soooo small!

Even the football field (the main field for all our elementary, junior high, high school football games and graduation ceremonies) where I cheered at when I was a little cheerleader in elementary school and junior high, doesn't seem that big.

Songs.

Smells. Cologne is a big one. It will bring up a lot of memories of an ex-boyfriend or a guy I dated. I might not know the name of a cologne when I smell but I'll think to myself, "Wow...that smells like (insert name of guy)" and I'll just remember a bunch of things.

Going back home is always nostalgic. Driving around the town I grew up in will always bring back memories.

music really does it for me. my favorite year in music is 1995. so much good stuff came out then. when i hear music from then, i get kinda choked up. i am really fed up with the music today. so i have been buying stuff from the mid 90s

jacksonville is so freakin big that i dont see some sides of town for months at a time. my old high school is 30 miles away. so when i make it over there, it is a special moment. it brings back some good memories.

different smells really take me back to. it is like i am reliving the moment all over again.

Whenever I go to a record store (or whatever they call it nowadays), I search for CDs from the 1980s. They are so hard to find! What's up with that!

Also, when I smell lilac perfume or the flower, I am immediately taken back to my childhood home in Connecticut. The was a lilac bush between my house and the neighbors'.
