Should Kobe play?

NBA Commissioner David Stern has issued a statement that he feels it's okay for Kobe Bryant to play the season while waiting for/enduring court hearings in his upcoming rape trial.

KB's in a tight spot. From a media/pr perspective, the smart thing is to keep a low profile -- don't play. But I also feel that if he didn't do anything wrong, don't change your life; do what you do. For Kobe that means play ball.

It's ticklish either way (and I think he's in deep trouble anyway if the case isn't moved out of Eagle, Colo.), but I wonder what others in the GC fam think on this.

I don't know....I heard this question on Russ Parr this morning.

I feel like the judge should be the one to decide if his playing would taint the jury pool.

If it won't, then he needs to play!

Had this quote from NBA Commissioner David Stern:

"We don't have a Patriot Act in the NBA. That means that you're innocent until proven guilty."

And as a Laker fan, I appreciate the commish's statement, although the real key is how the Diesel Daddy is doing on his conditioning.:p ;)

What does Kobe's playing have to do with tainting the jury pool?

Steeltrap:

I'm guessing Shaq betta be ready to ball or he's going to have hell to pay from Steeltrap???

Laker announcer: "Uhm, look, there's an AKA out on the court giving Shaq what for..."

If I ever got $$$ to buy tickets and go to L.A., I betcha I couldn't get NEAR the court because Mrs. Shaunie Diesel would sicc the guards on me, thinking I'm just a crazed fan...:p

I don't know, that's why I say leave it to the judge.

If the court let me out on bond, I most certainly would have to come to work. I say let me man do his job. After all, playing b-ball is his job.

Can't imagine season w/o Kobe!

I agree; let the man play. He is the franchise, and possibly the official NBA point guard as well. I mean, R. Kelly's still making music, isn't he???

Is it just me, or has anyone else heard rumblings of sodomy out of Eagle, CO? I hate to see what could happen in such a place in front of a local jury should such an act become confirmed!

Dirtymike1906 (Meltonian man),
Between you and OA, we might as well just have a ETL chapter meeting on GC.

yeah, it's not looking great for Kobe IMO. A rape charge is bad enough but when you factor in what many people consider deviant sexual behavior by a Black man upon a white local woman from the area....Johnnie Cochran might have a tough time with this one.

if KB's lawyer's don't get a change of venue, I think your boy is going away......(and I make no comment on his guilt/innocence because I don't know).

When this first came out, I thought that Kobe wouldn't touch Johnnie Cochran with a 10-foot pole, because even though JC is a brilliant criminal defense lawyer and got Ohhhjjjjenthal off, Ohhhjjjj is still a pariah and can't get any type of mainstream commercial endorsements. I didn't think the Kobester wanted to make himself into that. :p

TonyB06 10-08-2003 07:34 PM

The Johnnie Cochran line was mainly in jest.

I think race is coming into this trial soon enough as it is (particularly if it stays in Eagle, Colo). Bringing in Cochran, for exactly the reasons you mentioned Steeltrap, would only add to Kobe's woes.
