Would you tell?
Hi Ladies,
I'm new to the forum and wanted to introduce myself. I'm msmonique and I came across this forum and love the vibe here. I've been busy reading some of the new and older posts and they have been very entertaining and informative. I wanted to ask a specific question and get the opinions of some of the memberfriends of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. I could not find a topic similar to this when I did a search. I've recently relocated back to a city where I submitted for membership and was NOT invited to participate in the MIP. This was over 10 years ago. Since moving back, I was introduced to a chapter member who has invited me to help out with a long-term volunteer project that her chapter is involved with. You can't imagine my delight! I definitely thanked God for this opportunity since I pretty much had to start from scratch regarding my quest for membership since moving back. The question is: Should I mention to her that I had submitted to the chapter over 10 years ago? My concern is that I don't want to appear dishonest by omitting this information in my conversations with her about my interest. Please feel free to email me if this can't be addressed on the forum. Thanks in advance for your replies. |
Wow, working on that long term project with a member is a great opportunity for her to get to know you and visa versa. You're right, honesty is important. You do not have to tell her if you do not feel confortable yet. However, don't ever tell her an untruth if she asks you a direct question. It is sure to blow up in your face in the future. If it makes you feel uncomfortable and it is eating you up inside, tell her. Don't even let it stress you out. The thing is, many people did not make it their first time. It happens and it should be taken as a learning experience. If you were interested years ago, like myself, and you are still interested, I think that shows commitment and determination. I never submitted an application but I still feel your pain sisterfriend. Ask yourself these questions: Did you learn anything from that experience? What went wrong? If they are harder on you this time because you didn't make it the last time, are you prepared for the storm? Are you trying to learn as much history as possible so that, should you be questioned, you will shine? Can you use your knowledge to help another prospect that may be going through the same things now that you went through then? I'm no expert but that's my opinion. And my opinion comes straight from the heart.

Thank You!
... for taking the time to reply to my question. It was greatly appreciated. I wish you well in your quest!
