Ritual Dress
Does anyone know what the final word is on our ritual/badge attire? I know my chapter has its own rules. What does National have to say about this?
|
I know that the attire for Convention was supposed to be business attire for some of the business side of it. Something you would feel comfortable wearing to a business meeting or an interview. And one thing that is always stressed in the dos and don'ts they send us is no spaghetti straps or strapless, yet I saw it ignored - including by some national personnel but mostly by sisters. You're always supposed to wear nylons/trouser socks is what I've been told.

It seems that most chapters have their own rules, too.
I think the best way to know what is acceptable at an International level is to check out the handout sent with the info on Convention and LTS...The last time I got one they even had pictures of a few examples of what is and is not acceptable. I know, like duchess said, strapless/sleeveless is not good, and that nylons are required - but other than that i dunno. I always thought open-toed shoes were not allowed, but s/o told me they were (as long as nylons worn). LITP |
Our chapter always says something you would wear to an interview or to meet your boyfriend's parents. We allos sleeveless, but no spaghetti straps. Also we don't allow khakis. We also always say if you have to question it, it probably isn't appropriate.

Ritual Wear
is our chapter the only one that wears stockings/hosiery to meetings?
the reason i'm asking is because when i want to wear a cute dress. . .they don't make stockings in my color. . .not even close. i've looked at dilliards and i'm not shelling out $8 just for me to be able to wear open toe shoes that look like i'm bare=legged. so, what do you guys do for the african american members in your chapter when it comes to ritual wear? do you actually make them wear hideous nude hosiery that is no where near their color? or is there a clause? in the summer for pref night, i wore black 80s Madonna fishnets and closed toe funky shoes while everyone else had on nude hose and cute funky open toe shoes. |
fear not - you can take a vote on ritual wear in formal chatper and vote that you don't have to wear stockings and closed toed shoes.

Our chapter has to wear stockings, no ands if or buts about it. I believe if you look through the new member handbook that it says that pin attire you must always wear socks or stockings. I know there is something from CO that has that info in it. Essentially, what we've been told by national personnel with regards to pin attire is that it should look like your going to an interview or nice business meeting (not business casual).
Supposedly a committee has been created that is working on what pin attire is as the last two years at LTS and convention it's been pretty bad. This summer alone someone wore flipflops (not even sandals) to ritual meeting. In the past two years there were girls with jean skirts on or they wore clothes that looked better for going out to clubs (short skirts, midriff bare). Truthfully it looked pretty disrepsectful to me and I think there were a couple of women who had to go up and change because it was so bad. |
We always had to wear nylons, closed toed shoes, and appropreate apparel. Otherwise, you were sent home and counted as absent! I am a dancer and won't wear nylons because annoy my nether regions after a while (and infections suck), so I wear thigh highs and they aren't cheap. You just make it work.
I can't believe that people would show up for LTS not in proper attire. That is like slapping your sorority in the face. |
My chapter had voted for our local constitution to read that we didn't have to wear nylons during ritual meetings. We also put that jean skirts, mid-driff baring shirts, and "club clothes" were inappropriate. If you show up to a ritual event wearing the above mentioned attire, you were either sent home to change or you were unable to participate in the ritual activities. Sisters learned and obide by this rule quite well now despite the hesitation at the beginning.

i'm only concerned because they don't make hosiery in my color

I think ritual dress for conclaves has always been more strict than at individual chapters...I went out and bought closed-toe shoes to go to LTS this summer, only to see that even Natl personnel were wearing open toed...
It is an individual choice. If you are dressed professionally and not like you're going clubbing than it should be fine. I definitely would bring up the issue you have...for me it's the complete opposite, i'm really fair and a lot of nylons are too dark for me or at least I find they are - so I do end up spending $8 on ones that actually are "nude". My chapter has become a bit more lenient in the past few years, open toed is allowed now, and nylons aren't necessary for ritual meetings, although I think they are for other rituals (pref, pinning, initiation)...oh yeah, def a must at initiation.... on another note, i do wear my pin when i wear "business casual"...basically if it's not denim, sportswear or clubwear i'll wear my pin - i don't do that too often though since I usually wear other phi sig jewelry. |
Im pretty sure the only person who can decide on the panty hose/no panty hose rule is the grand archon.
We have one african american in our chapter, she always wears pants - so I cant even tell you what she does... who knows about what the heck national wants. |

I know we HAVE to have on stockings with a skirt..... I think it's a good rule personally to wear panty hosefor ritual I mean sure if you're wearing a sun dress or just a denim skirt or something no pantyhouse is fine but with business attire.. panty house are just nice and much more classy.... HOWEVER Being Part Black I know it's hard to find hose that match properly, but it can be done ! I suggest DKNY she has some REALLY GOOD skin tones even for us peeps with darker skin. HEY Have you hard from Katie... is she doing alright ? |
i thought katie was back in california
|
She was in Indianna for like a week or two... now she is back in Cali... but in So Cal.. not in San Fran.. well actually today she is here in San Fran... but she's staying in LA until Spring semester starts.
