Singles Clubs

Okay, so my parents are forcing me to join a singles club so I could have friends and find a mate. I don't want to do it because there are plenty of organizations out there that would allow me to reap the same benefits as a singles organizations.

Has anyone been in one? If so, what is your take on it? Any good or bad experiences.

Okay, I'll be honest.... I thought about joining something like this when I was single.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it, as long as you go into it with an open mind.

I'm sure we all think of the stereotype of a lot of unattractive, desperate, or just plain creepy men oogling up us cute, young, things ;) And be prepared... there will probably be a lot of this. But I'll bet you that there will be at least a few "normal" guys who are in the same situation as you are... either there under pressure from family/friends, or just willing to try something new.

I say give it a shot. There's nothing to lose, and if it's really that bad, it will give you lots of funny stories to tell :)

I am not sure what a singles club is. I thought that you meant a nightclub.

Your parents are forcing you? If you don't want to join, don't join. Do they really have that type of control over you?

LOL, oh too funny Tom!

There are some for us "younger folks"..................

I wouldn't pay to join one. They aren't THAT bad though. I would look at it as meeting people you wouldn't normally meet (in my case that would be anyone who wasn't a diver or a Gamma Phi).

id never participate in something like this.

twinstars 09-17-2003 09:12 PM

singles clubs?

What are they exactly? What kind of stuff do you do if you're in one?

I've never heard of that before.

Clarification

I meant to say singles organizations. Sometimes I tend to interchange club and organization being that they mean the same thing. I apologize for any confusion my original post might have caused.

OK since the above post didn't give an explanation: A singles club is basically like a social organization for single people. Sometimes they're organized through a church, othertimes they're by a geographical area. They give singles a chance to meet other singles, but I actually know some single attorneys who joined one just for the social benefits - having a few planned outings a month and meeting other single people to go do things with. There's a fairly busy singles club in my hometown that's full of a lot of young professionals.

my church has over 2000 singles
they do a dinner for 8 thing
they just rotate the singles around until you get a group of friends
i won't do it
i think that i'm a little too outspoken for some of them

It can't hurt. There are a lot of things geared to young singles. Does your college have an alumni association? We do, and they usually sponsor a monthly singles mixer with other colleges' alumni clubs. Since I'm not single, I don't go, but I think it's a good thing for people who are new to a city and looking to make new friends. Another option is through other Greeks.

My alma mater does have an Alumni Association which I am a lifetime member of. Unfortunately, they don't have chapters across the country. I hope that will change in the future. They are in Long Island and I moved to Arizona almost six months ago.

I should definitely look into the other Greeks option.

I have some experiences to tell you with this type of endeavor...

You can PM me if you'd like or I can tell you some of them here...

But basically, it doesn't matter if you are in a singles group or another type of group, you outta be able to meet folks and make friends while you get involved in activities... Unless you reside in "that" part of the country that folks ain't that friendly or open...

Hey, at least on the west coast, they may be phoney and not really a good friend, but you do get out and they will invite you to hang if you want to...

My question is why would your folks think that would be good for you at this stage in your life?
