Concerned

Sorors and Sisterfriends,

I apologize in advance for the long post.

I have been visiting this site for a while now and I often wonder if the site would be successful if there were not so many people who use it as a bashing platform.

I realize that people have the right to their opinions, but I sometimes can't believe how people are so disrespectful but expect that their views to be taken seriously.

I have been guilty of responding but then I read a quote from another orgs. message board that said "Never argue with an idiot. They'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience." I liked it because I thought that it was applicable here.

Sometimes I think that the site should be just for registered members (it is free) and if a registered member obviously is creating "beef" and not just discussing then they and their posts should be removed.

Back to my original question. Do you think that this site would do well without so many naysayers?

What do you all feel about these things.

Maybe, but it wouldn't be half as fun!

I understand what you are saying, Mook. Personally, this is the only site that I visit almost everyday (yes, I'm hooked) and I used to feel comfortable posting all over it. However, lately there's been quite a bit of controversy (drama) and the negativity can be discouraging if you let it be.

Unfortunately, there are people out there that are very unhappy/insecure with themselves and they'll try any way that they can to tear others down. They choose what they think is the anonymity of a username to make disrespectful comments because they probably wouldn't have the courage to say 1/3 of what they post face to face.

So, to save myself the headache, I've decided to stay out of the "arena" and just choose not to respond to people trying to start "flames". Based on the anonymity, their posts are all that I have to go by to determine their character and credibility. And if all they do is "nay say" or make negative comments, that pretty much sums it up for me - I don't have to get offended because they probably aren't who they say they are (especially if they claim to be greek) and I don't have to waste my time replying to them.

**I do think that all posters should have to register, though**

There will always be people who don't know any better running off at the mouth talking loud but not saying anything!

WISE MEN SPEAK BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY; FOOLS BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO SAY SOMETHING!

Sorors, I agree with you. I'm hooked on this site, too. However, I rarely go outside of our forum these days. If I do venture into the general area, it is usually on a read-only basis.

If something negative is posted there, I just ignore it. These people are simply seeking attention and want to see how many greeks (as well as the non-greeks) they can get to respond. I will not give them the satisfaction on indulging in their ignorance and their childish games. If they choose to maintain their unregistered status, then they should at least use their time for productive and constructive dialogue.

Teresa, what is fun about all the drama and the "flames" they create? http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/confused.gif Please tell me you were joking!

I hpe you all understood that I was not trying to be difficult but after reading some posts in the general boards I got a little flustered!
Hope you all had a wonderful day, 'cause the halloween candy made my second graders drive me crazy!

Yes... I was joking. But you have to admit that some of the things that people say are little funny (crazy) in a Jerry Springer kind of way!
