School newspapers

This isn't really Greek related but I didn't want it to get lost in Chit Chat.

I often peruse college newspapers online and I've seen a trend in the past years. In the first or second issue there's always an article about the evils of drinking/partying/etc. It usually doesn't have a byline, and I assume this means it's written by the staff.

Are these something that the staff is writing because they want to, or is it forced?

As a former journalism major

As a former journalism major, I know that all these campus newspapers swap issues, and steal stuff.

Probably if some campus paper does a story, it inspires others to publish something similar. And having someone else's story in hand makes it easy to produce a similar story.

You might also be interested in the Wake newspaper and their cartoon about the Chi Omega situation.

That might be true for the first year, but when the same type article appears on the front page of the paper, the first week of the semester and it happens 5 years in a row, it's obviously placed there by the administration.

Or by a new editor who wants to suck up to the administration so they don't lose their underwriting.

But, hey, call me a cynic.
