9/11

Sisters,
Hey. I'm just asking that today we all pause and reflect the losses that occured 2 years ago. I also ask that we all think about the sisters that we lost that fateful day. Pray for all the victims and their families.

(In loving memory of those who died on September 11, 2001)

"Through violence you may murder a murderer, but you can't murder
murder. Through violence you may murder a liar, but you can't establish
truth. Through violence you may murder a hater, but you can't murder
hate. Darkness cannot put out darkness. Only light can do that...

Difficult and painful as it is, we must walk on in the days ahead with
an audacious faith in the future. When our days become dreary with
low-hovering clouds of despair, and when our nights become darker than a thousand midnights, let us remember that there is a creative force inthis universe, working to pull down the gigantic mountains of evil, apower that is able to make a way out of no way and transform dark yesterdays into bright tomorrows. Let us realize the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

BobraFCD, what a beautiful website. Beautifully done. It made me break down in tears. I highly recommend y'all checking the website out but a warning, the pictures are graphic in nature. I'm sure most of y'all of seen pictures from that day, but I wanted to say that.

Question

Does anyone know exactly if ADPi lost any sisters in the attacks, if so, does anyone know any interesting stories or how many?

I think that sort of thing would have to be reported from individual families to the national office. I haven't seen any reports of losses. I know that several of the alumni here in Washington have stories of the terrible things we were witness to, and I'm sure that sisters in NY have the same. It would be interesting to do a memorial for our ADPi sisters, but it may be very difficult to find out exactly who to honor.

Yes, we did lose sisters. There was an article in the Adelphean on this subject previously.

Here's a link to one of your sisters, Lauren Grandcolas who was pregnant, lost on 9/11. I was on the CNN site which posts information on all the victims. I was looking for a distant family friend who perished (NYFD firefighter) and I came across her picture. I could not get her out of my mind because she reminded me so much of someone I know. What a tragic loss. My condolences.

Lauren Grandcolas

You can read her obituary at this address:
Lauren Obit

There are comments from her ADPi sisters and U of Texas-Austin classmates in the guestbook.

I just went to visit Lauren Grandcolas' tribute site and discovered she was on Flight 93. Investigators believe that it was headed to the U.S. Capitol, where I was working that day. I still can't think of those passengers withouth getting teary and saying a prayer. I hope I never do.

They died so that I could live.

The bonds of sisterhood are with us in ways we can't even imagine.

I had read Lauren's name before, I had read all the names before, but I never knew she was a sister.
