September 4, 2003 (New York)—During the month of September, L'Occitane will sell the limited edition Creme Caramel candle—a celebrated scent no longer sold—with 20 percent of its sales benefiting the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB). The proceeds will help AFB in their mission to eliminate the inequities faced by the 10 million Americans who are blind and visually impaired.

"We are honored to be the beneficiaries of L'Occitane's latest initiative," said Carl Augusto, AFB President and CEO. "This partnership is another example of L'Occitane's commitment to helping promote equality and accessibility for people who are blind and visually impaired."

In 2000, L'Occitane received an Access Award from AFB for their efforts to make its products accessible to people who are blind and visually impaired through braille labeling. The braille literacy rate today is dangerously low—especially for children under 18—causing what has been described as a "braille literacy crisis." Braille labeling on products such as L'Occitane's helps raise awareness of this problem while making products more accessible to blind and visually impaired consumers.

The Creme Caramel candle can be purchased beginning September 1 at all L'Occitane boutiques, usa.loccitane.com or by calling 1-888-623-2880.

The American Foundation for the Blind—the organization to which Helen Keller devoted her life—is a national nonprofit whose mission is to eliminate the inequities faced by the 10 million Americans who are blind or visually impaired.
