A new Poll: Back in the Day at school or on the playground...
A. Were you a bully?
B. Were you always bullied? C. Neither (you just watched and observed :p ) |
Definitely C. While I was "nerdy", the bullies never picked on my because I would help them with their homework. Although there were some people that EVERYONE picked on.
|
C. I was too busy reading a book. I wasn't really that interested or interesting.

Definitely C. I did participate somewhat, but I was very withdrawn. Being bused away to a PWS because your neighborhood school doesn't have a gifted program will do that to you.

D. All the above
It depended which grade it was. From K-4 grade, was when I stirred up the most trouble. I wouldn't necessarily say that I was bully, but definately an instigator, either by provoking kids myself or egging on other kids to fight each other. Then I transferred schools in the middle of fourth grade, it took me a while to warm up to my peers, so from 4-6 I was basically a observer. 7th grade at 85 or 95 pounds, I was harrassed physically by a 200+ lb. girl. In 8th grade I was verbally harrassed by a complete psycho, but was sane enough to turn the majority of 8th graders against me. It was totally hell, until she transferred to another school about three months into the school year, ironically right after the fight we got into. |
lol
I pretty much was an observer. I was in the group of girls on the side doing all those lil cheers during recess:
"I'ma sohisticated lady oh o yeah sopisticated lady oh o...well my name is nisha and I'm slim and fine...if you don't believe me I will blow yo mind...I got hips that function and I love my man, If you try to take him, I will do all I can....".....lol....the memories O yeah what about "Here come Uncle Bill, riding down tha hill, huffin and a puffin like an automobile......come on now do yo thang thats enough work it out...".....lol... Ya'll might not know anything about that though...lol;) :D |

:o I was a bully.... A group of guys and I would punk kids off the basketball court or "The Big Toy" as we so lovingly called it and play hot lava (don't ask!).

I was too cute to be a bully!
You know, it's funny! I was always one of the most popular girls, but I was the only brown face in the place, for the most part! :) Go figure...
But, when I was in fifth grade, there was a black boy who was in one of those "other" classes, you know, the "special" class, who had a crush on me... Well, he sat next to me in the lunchroom one day and I told him he had to move because the man of my dreams was in SIXTH grade! Ya'll know that was big stuff back then... I was wearing the sixth grader's chain so you KNOW it was official! :D So the boy was mad and walked away. After lunch, we went to recess. I was minding my own business when that same little boy ran up on me and hit me in the stomach so hard I couldn't breathe for what felt like an eternity! It's funny now, but not back then. It was cool though... My "older man" beat his butt like he stole something. :D |
C. I never bullied any of the other kids. I was always the youngest and smallest in my class so I was never in a position to pick on anyone else. Really, I was such a talkative little kid that I never really thought about being mean to the "nerdy" kids. I liked them because I could just talk on and on and they would never really stop me. I loved the fact that I had an attentive ear. But, I always got in trouble for talking in class.

I was mostly a D (I know that wasn't an option! :p) I was the one that STOPPED people from picking on other people. I was always one of the taller people in my classes in Elementary School and had a big mouth. For some reason, people were a bit scared of me, so I found myself becoming the rescuer (is that a word) of people. I still like to fight for the under dog. My experience has been that bullies bully because they can. Stand up to them and they turn, tuck their tails and run.
There was, however, one situation in the 7th grade where a girl named Mary Laster (her nickname was Nunk  ) who wanted to beat me and a friend up because we laughed at her in PE one day. She was really tough and we were both afraid of her. She would follow us home from school (with a large contingent of folks wanting to see a fight) and try to get us to fight. After a few days of us saying "Look, we are not fighting you" she left us alone. Nunk was the exception to my bully rule stated above. She liked to fight. Wonder what ever happened to her....I think she dropped out of school in the 9th grade |

Okay, I thought I was the only one who didn't see an option that described my experience. I grew up on "the block", so I was used to fighting, and having to defend myself. However, like SteelTrap, I was bussed to "multi-cultural" magnet school, far, far away from home. And those people did not get down, the way we got down on "the block", so I never had to fight in grade school. But I hate to see people get picked on. I can't stand it. I'm always right there, ready to help them stomp out an injustice. But the one thing about "under dogs" that burns me, is that some of them get too comfortable with the "rescuers" constantly rescuing them. Stick up for your damn self, sometimes! Get a freaking backbone! Open up your mouth and say, NO. It's okay...really. |
