Tcp/ip
as you may or may not know, my dsl is not working. i moved my computer from one side of my apt to the other and when i turned my computer back on, my internt wouldnt work. so i called tech suuport and got a new modem box thingy and it still didnt work. so next i called SBC - my internet provider. we did uninstalled my internet program and reinstalled it, changed wires, changed ports and it still is not working. now i keep getting this message about how the TCP/IP stack confirguring is wrong. so i called SBC back again and they told me that i need my windows 98 cd before they can help me any further. does anyone know if they are going to make me reinstall windows? i dont want to mess around with my computer that much and then really not have a computer that works. OR is there another way to get around this that i dont know about and they arnet telling me? convincing my dad to lend me a windows 98 cd is hard to cause he thinks i am going to ruin my computer!!
HELP!!! i am paying for internet access that i cant even use!!! ***dances a i need help dance*** |
No, you don't have to reinstall Windows, you need your CD just in case there are configuration files you need to properly configure your TCP/IP stack.

I think ZetaAce is right. My experience is that, unlike with dial-up modems where you have to choose which model, speed, etc., along with local access numbers, most ISP's and high speed services work reasonably seamlessly with windows for TCP-IP (LAN) connections.
As I think ZA is pointing out, it may be that when your Windows Operating system) was installed, there were some configuration files that weren't installed with it because they aren't needed in a standard installation. (could I have used "install" any more times in that sentence?) Good luck. |
Yes, it should be fixed. It's fairly simple, and won't require too much in the realm of computer knowledge.
And why yes, DeltAlum, I am right :p (Just Kidding) Have a nice day! I'm off to delete posts, lol |
