To all alumnae

What do u miss most about being in ur chapter now that your no longer a collegiate member?

LeslieAGD 09-07-2003 12:54 PM

I miss just being involved...going to sisterhoods, philanthropies, or rush and catching up with my sisters. Living an hour away makes it difficult to visit frequently and I miss out on events and current gossip.

Recruitment....My favorite time of year....the "friendly" competition, the inevitable bid arguments! LOL

Ritual...I miss initiating new women

Meetings...LOVED our weekly meetings...

Sleepovers...The whole chapter having one HUGE slumber party!

I'm nostalgic for the socials, the chapter meetings, the philanthropy events, the serenades, date functions, fraternity parties, recruitment and Diamond Sister Revelation....

What I miss most of all is getting ready for a party with my best friends, taking 2 AM drives to random places--- just to eat ice cream, road trips and football games, those long meaningful talks about the meaning of life, intramural football and floor hockey!--taking runs around campus late at night with close friends, giggling about the cute new boys in XYZ Fraternity, helping the alumnae decorate the local Ronald McDonald House for the holidays....

So many things I miss, but then I look back and remember the inherent drama that comes with being 20 years old and in college! And I look to the present and see all of the wonderful people who have come into my life, and the years of deep and lasting friendship we have shared, and continue to share. I think of driving out to LA from Orlando with my best friend in ADPi, our impromptu ADPi reunions in Vegas, Tampa, Fort Myers, Orlando.... any excuse to get together and giggle. I think of all the wonderful friends I have made through being a member of the alumnae assoc and as an adviser-- all of my sisters who come from different universities, but who still possess the qualities that I would look for in an Alpha Delta Pi. I look at my Greek co-workers and enjoy greatly our time in the office together and then out on the town.

The memories are wonderful, the present couldn't be any better, I look forward to the future and I thank my lucky stars I am a Greek!

adpiufc,

since I have last done a full collegete year for so many years ago, I do still have memories of what We did and the fun we have had and what fun we still do today!:D

I am still envolved in so many ways and since I was the Founder, there are many Brothers who have come after me that I still have close contact with.

What is thrilling is to meet New Brothers who are now in the 600 + numbers.

I as an Alum can only hope that they strive to attain and have the fun that I did!:D

This is what is so Great about G C, I have Brothers all over the Country: Jono, EM1843, lifesaver, LXAAlum, ETC.

It just goes to show, That Our Little Chapters are not alone!:)

Do I miss the meetings, the partys, the working together on Homecoming, Charity Events, maybe just getting in a car and go to another Chapter, going to Sporting Events, or just gong out for a beer with Brothers,

"YES I DO!":D

I have been an alumna for quite a while now. When I lived in New York City, I could have gone to Stony Brook and met with the actives and pledges (er, I mean new members) whenever I wanted. Now I live like 2,500 miles away from them, I don't have that luxury. I miss them, but I hope to visit them and meet those who I have yet to meet. I feel the guilt for a while now!

Since I just graduated in May, I'm missing so much about my house! I miss living in the house... I miss going into my sisters' rooms just to talk or them coming into my room... I miss walking to class/getting rides with them to class... I miss going out with my sisters... and I miss recruitment!

SuperSister 09-07-2003 03:24 PM

I moved from PA to NC and I miss being close to my sisters . . . if I was having a rough day to be able to call and ask them to come over. I miss seeing them on a regular basis. Homcoming is coming up soon and I am so excited that I get to go back and see them!

I miss seeing a sister every day. Even if it wasn't one I was particularly close with, it brightened my day to see one of the girls.

Crazy dinners as a chapter in the dining hall. Taking up a whole table and wearing our letters proudly. Or all being in the same bid-day shirt.

Bonding with my family tree. By the time I graduated I had two littles, two grand-littles and three great grand littles. They are all great. It was great too bc my big had graduated but worked for Res Life and lived on campus still. We always tried to hang out once a month which was fun times for sure.

Always having something to do on the weekend. Bar, party or movie...great memories.

I DO NOT miss meetings from 7-9ish on Sunday nights...

Recruitment just started for us, so I definitely miss all the craziness of preparing for each party and staying up late with my sisters. I also miss living in the house since that was my home for the past two years. And of course, I miss all the social events, as well as tailgating with my sisters before the football games!

Things I miss about my chapter:

* Random drives around NW Indiana in the middle of the night
* Living in a dorm/apartment with a sister and getting to know them outside of the role they played in the sorority
* Preparing for recruitment (Spirit week)
* Talking to a sister at all times of the day and night
* Meeting a sister for a meal
* Spending time with my diamond sisters (my older, younger, and younger's younger)
* Taking fun pictures everywhere
* Going to Walmart, Steak n Shake, Applebee's, the mall "just to hang out"
* Meetings (ours were never longer than an hour and a half on Sunday nights)
* Wearing letters on "set" days (I go to a community college right now and I'm hesitant to wear them there ~ but I do wear my lavalier)
* Movie nights/retreats in the CR
* Staying up to all hours of the night talking with a sister about things going on in our lives
* Ritual and Initiation
* Sharing in the wedding celebration of a sister
* Making plans for road trips that never seem to work out (but we still keep planning them!)

I miss my chapter :( but I get to see many of my sisters next month when I'm back in Indiana for a week!

I miss the comraderie and sisterhood of being a sorority sister in college.

Jadey28 09-07-2003 07:14 PM

I miss...

-the sisterhood events
-the socials
-formals!!!!!
-fundraising
-philanthropy
-and most of all, ritual.

However, I am an advisor for a local chapter and I get to continue to do everything!!! :D

AOIIalum 09-07-2003 07:57 PM

All things RECRUITMENT!!!!!

I miss many other things as well, but I've been lucky enough to remain involved at some level as an alumna. Even so, I miss everything recruitment related...from practices and retreats, late night songfests, and of course the feeling of sheer joy before the door flies open for the first time and the dozens and dozens of PNMs walk in with eyes wide open.

Munchkin03 09-07-2003 08:03 PM

I miss more about my sorority than I thought was possible! I only lived in house one year, but I just miss seeing all the ladies around campus, getting instant messages and text messages about Bar Nights (three nights a week!), I miss the smell of the house, I miss so much about it! :(

I definitely, however, do not miss being VP-Finance.
