Behing every successful woman...

My boyfriend and I always discuss how women develop an entrpreneurial "flair" and pretty much "blow up" after they marry someone with a sh_tload of dinero.

I am not mad but I often wonder whether their successes are long held dreams and aspirations or really successful only because their husbands are who they are.

I am thinking about this because originally, we were discussing Tracey Edmonds, whom he was in awe of. I, in true hater fashion, felt that Edmonds Entertainment was what it was because she is Babyface's wife.

Similar goes for Kimora Lee. Although she had a successful modeling career, let's be honest. Baby Phat is what it is, because she is Russell Simmons' wife. Now, of course, the fashions stand on their own, but initially.

Okay, here's what really got this thread started. Jada Pinkett Smith is singing at EVERY bar in Los Angeles over the next few weeks before her band drops its first CD. Now I know a "I am who I am but since I married you know who, f___ it, I'ma do some itsh I KNOW I would not have blown up at had I not married him" when I see it.

I absolutely adore Jada, but enough is enough.

Check out the website. Listen to some of the samples. It's real rock-ish, which works in Cali, but....

Call me a hater if you'd like, but this piggy backs off the thread re: dating the thugs and what not. Sometimes that thug nukka may have the cash to back yo' itsh. So be it.

Wicked Wisdom is quite average, so I feel your frustration.

However, I feel like a man is supposed to ensure that his wife can fulfill her aspirations. I think the women in question (Kimora, Jada, Tracey) are actually talented in their own right.

I think Jada could definitely carry her own weight without Will; she had a host of movies under her belt long before she married him. This latest thing with singing , I guess she can afford to branch out a bit. Maybe she's always wanted to give music a shot.... I know I won't be shelling out a lot for tickets.

Kimora Lee Simmons has been modeling since she was 13 and if I read correctly, she was a muse for Karl Largerfeld. Face it, Russell did not even know what fork to use when he met her, she speaks four or five languages and is well traveled. If they never married, I suspect she would have launched a fashion line. It may have struggled for visibility, but it would be fairly popular. Being Russell's wife guarantees visibility and access.

Now Tracey was a starving waitress when Babyface met her. She was one of the women featured in the "Whip Appeal" video. She graduated from Stanford and would have had a great career without him anyway, but again, being married to him helps. She is the brains behind that operation, no doubt.

Being married to wealthy men allows these women to take a chance because they can afford to do so. I am happy that they are trying to do more than simply be the wife of so and so. But I still don't know about Jada and her band though. Anybody heard them perform? This is a good topic, by the way.

First of all, let me say that yes I love our black men but I will be successful with or without a man.

I'm not married but if I do decide to get married, I hope my husband and I compliment one another in our efforts. That is what the union is suppose to be about. We should be happy that these brothers "got the hook up." I'm not going to hate. These very talented men (Will, Russell and Babyface) most likely admired more than just their wives pretty faces. It appears that these women had talent before jumping the broom.

If money is not an issue, an individual can develop a talent or two! Voice classes, Dance classes:rolleyes:, quilt making classes and on and on. Is there someone out there that is willing to help me develop my talent of shopping:D?

Thanks everyone for being so open. After I re-read my comments I though "Geesh, I sound like a GATER!" I don't mean to sound that way but sometimes I wonder.

Of course, I do agree that if a brothah can help catapult your career into the stratosphere than so be it. This is at leats being productive as opposed to being a straight socialite just because one can.

Jada would have doen well regardless. Kimora may have not had a clothing line, but success nonetheless. Tracey, uh-uh.

But you are right because there are a lot of women married to (prettyy) high profile people who couldn't do/get a job to save their lives. So there must be ambition and talent in the first place.

JLo and her fiance thought that they would be able to help each others careers. Her fiance, who's name I forget, got so much publicity for being with JLo. They thought that tired movie was going to be a hit. "Gillie" I think it was called. Whatever!

Bobby has been trying to get a piggy back ride off of his wife but a loser is a loser. In that case, it seems like they bring eachother down.
