Any ideas?
Hey everyone,
I'm working on a powerpoint movie and I need some good sisterhood songs.......things that tug on the heartstrings and capture some of the bond, but not all sappy sappy tear jerker........any ideas? |
"I will be here"-Steven Curtis Chapman
2 of our girls performed it at pref and it was wonderful! |
Okay, this will be vague, but maybe someone will chime in with the title and artist...it was in some movie I saw recently (yes, I know that helps :p ) and the lyrics were "Feels like home to me...feels like home to me..."
I thought it was a beautiful song and would be great for recruitment! |
That "feels like home to me" I think was used in a Dawson's Creek Episode. Go to www.dawsonscreekmusic.com to check it out.
|
Follow me by John Denver. Our chapter song. A tear-jerker! Let me know if you need the lyrics
|
that song by the Lighthouse Family..."High"
http://www.btinternet.com/~basedata/...amily/high.htm It's very moving, I think! Also, that song by Simon and Garfunkel (I think it's called "Passages") |
I think "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart makes a good slide show song. I played it in the senior slide show at my high school yearbook party right before graduation and even the guys were in tears.
"These are Days" by 10,000 Maniacs is always a good one. "You Ain't Never Had a Friend Like Me" from Aladdin! :) "You've Got a Friend" James Taylor "Lean on Me" or "Stand By Me" "Feels like home" by Chantal Kreviazuk is good as someone mentioned above. Another good song that is also from Dawson's Creek and has lyrics similar to "feels like home" is "Never Saw Blue Like That" by Shawn Colvin. I think Kappa uses it a lot because of the blue references. Never Saw Blue Like That Performed by Shawn Colvin Written by Tom Kimmel, Jeff Franzel, Mark Luna Today I took a walk up the street And picked a flower and climbed the hill Above the lake And secret thoughts were said aloud We watched the faces in the clouds Until the clouds had blown away And were we ever somewhere else You know, it's hard to say And I never saw blue like that before Across the sky Around the world You've given me all you have and more And no one else has ever shown me how To see the world the way I see it now Oh, I, I never saw blue like that I can't believe a month ago I was alone, I didn't know you I hadn't seen or heard you're name And even now, I'm so amazed It's like a dream, It's like a rainbow, it's like the rain And somethings are the way they are And words just can't explain Cause I never saw blue like that before Across the sky Around the world You've given me all you have and more And no one else has ever shown me how To see the world the way I see it now Oh, I, I never saw blue like that before And it feels like now, And it feels always, And it feels like coming home I never saw blue like that before Across the sky Around the world You've given me all you have and more And no one else has ever shown me how To see the world the way I see it now Oh, I, I never saw blue like that before |
Our chapter song is "Now and Forever" by Carol King from "A League of Their Own"
Now and forever you are a part of me And the memory cuts like a knife Didn’t we find the ecstasy Didn’t we share the daylight When you walked into my life Now and forever I’ll remember All the promises still unbroken And think about all the words between us That never needed to be spoken We had a moment Just one moment That will last beyond the dream Beyond the lifetime We are the lucky ones Some people never get to do Oh we got to do Now and forever I will always think of you Didn’t we come together Didn’t we live together Didn’t we cry together Didn’t we play together Didn’t we love together And together we lit up our world I miss the tears I miss the laughter I miss the day we met And all that followed after Sometimes I wish I could always be with you The way we used to do (oh) Now and forever I will always think of you Now and forever I will always be with you (oh) |
Special song
This is my favorite song for things like this. A senior sang it at my first pref on the DG side and I just love it!
P.S. CDC Jenny encouraged the chapter I'm advising now (Beta Delta) to add Now and Forever to their pref ceremony last year and it was an awesome addition! In My Life The Beatles There are places I'll remember All my life, though some have changed Some forever, not for better Some have gone and some remain All this places have their moments With lovers and friends I still can recall Some are dead and some are living In my life, I've loved them all But of all these friends and lovers There is no one compares with you And these memories lose their meaning When I think of love as something new Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life, I love you more Though I know I'll never lose affection For people and things that went before I know I'll often stop and think about them In my life, I love you more In my life-- I love you more |
More songs
Just found this website and four posts in one night... obviously I need to get out more ;)
See http://www.geocities.com/mouseroni/shadygirls.html for the saddest greek story I've heard in a while. But I took quite a few suggestions from her CD playlist. 10,000 Maniacs - "These Are Days" Madonna - "This Used to Be My Playground" Sarah McLachlan - "I Will Remember You" Green Day - "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" The Pretenders - "I'll Stand By You" Michael W. Smith - "Friends" (but I have some DG words that I think work better ;) http://www.restech.wustl.edu/~dgamma/dgsongs.htm#sister) (from Disney's "Pete's Dragon") - "Candle on the Water" Carole King - "You've Got A Friend" |
not a DG but...
Pardon the forum crash, but Michelle Branch's song "You Set Me Free" always reminds me of my sisters. It was played during a sisterhood event that my new member class had and I've loved it ever since. It's a more upbeat song, in case you haven't heard it.
Michelle Branch "You Set Me Free" Can't you see? There's a feeling that's come over me Close my eyes You're the only one that leaves me completely breathless No need to wonder why Sometimes a gift like this you can't deny 'Cause I wanted to fly, So you gave me your wings And time held its breath so I could see, yeah And you set me free There's a will There's a way Sometimes words just can't explain This is real I'm afraid I guess this time there's just no hiding, fighting You make me restless You're in my heart The only light that shines There in the dark 'Cause I wanted to fly, So you gave me your wings And time held its breath so I could see, yeah And you set me free When I was alone You came around When I was down You pulled me through And there's nothing that I wouldn't do for you 'Cause I wanted to fly, So you gave me your wings And time held its breath so I could see, yeah And you set me free |
Do you know "Out of my Window?"
