APO Brother Needs Help

Hello Brothers,

My name is Mary. I was initiated into the Alpha Zeta chapter of APO at University of Kentucky in Spring of 2000. However despite me going through it all, me having copies of checks i wrote to Alpha Zeta, and havign my pin, Nationals does not have records of my initiation or any of the 63 others in my pledge class that semester :( As a result, nationals will not help me, in my quest to reinolvemyself with APO(i've transferred schools to one without a chapter) and I'm unable to currently contact the current president of Alpha Zeta at UK. Any suggestions on what to do????

Thanks.
Mary

Did you ever receive your certificate and membership card?

Hi Mary!

This is a very unpleasant situation that you are in, one that is most likely due to administrative oversight. At my chapter, the school processed checks very slowly.

I think that you should definitely contact the current section chair and regional director for that area, as well as whoever was SC and RD for that area at the time that you pledged. The sad fact is just because you passed through the ritual doesn't make you a Brother in the eyes of the national office....it's very impersonal.

Whoever was in your chapter at the time, particularly the chapter president and pledge trainer, should also try to get to the bottom of this. Those are 63 brothers that need to be accounted for.

Be persistent.....this WILL work out!

No, I didnt receive my membership card and certificate (another thing that has me pissed), but because they have no record of the other 63 members of my pledge class either, no one else in my pledge class got them either. I even paid pledge dues and regular dues TWICE, because the person in charge my pledge semester didnt send them in, and apparently they didnt get sent in my first active semester either, since nationals doenst have a record of me being a brother (which ticks me again!) I dont fault nationals, and i dont fault APO as an org. I fault the people who were obviously not doing their jobs either in my chapter or the next level.
Part of the problem is that i'm havign trouble locating the folks that were in office at the time i joined, at the time i left, and currently, since i'm no longer at UK, and Alpha Zeta no longer has a website posted on the student org's section on UK's website. I am trying to get a hold of other chapters in the same section that UK is in(i even attended and paid for sectionals whcih the chair over the section saw me at cuz i talked to her personally during that weekend) and see if they can put me in contact with her or the new one and see how far i get that way.

I appreciate the responses! :) If anyone has any other ideas or know personally the people i need to get in touch with please PM me :) Thanks!

Mary

Princess, I had one more idea.....talk to whoever is in charge of clubs and organizations at UK. If the money had to go through the school (in the form of a university check) maybe they can track it down.

Maybe I can help....I was at an APO meeting with
the current president of APO at UK, along with
our section leader, just last night....we are starting a new APO
chapter at Georgetown College (12 miles north
of UK).

I'm really bad with names, and I don't remember hers,
but you could contact the section chair. He's new
(since the spring) and is very involved....eventhough
he's a full-time grad student at UK, he's spent several
hours over the past week, bringing UK and NKU APOs
with him, here at GC.

His name is John Strada, email is: jstra0@uky.edu

Hope this helps,
Kevin (not a brother yet, but keep your fingers crossed!)

Contacts

Agree with everything so far, unfortunately. I'd add contacting the Region V director, Tom Strong (region.v.director@apo.org), may not be able to specifically help, but good as a backup to the section chair (who I'm sure is most annoyed at UKy for this). UK student.

How far back was this?

Randy
