Wyoming
What state is Wyoming? Like, California is the Golden State, Virginia is the Old Dominion. What is Wyoming?
|
It's one of those big square states out West.
Actually, it's a beautiful state. Not many people there. I think they have only one US Representative because the population is so small. Not that many years ago, it was less than a million...may still be. But it has mountains and plains and great national parks, etc. The largest cities are pretty small by comparison with most. The closest major cities are Denver and Salt Lake. Some people say that Wyoming has the only auto license plates with the picture of a man brutalizing an animal -- it's a bronc rider. And there are sheep. We'll leave it at that. |
"Wyoming is known as the “Equality State” because of the rights women have traditionally enjoyed there. Wyoming women were the first in the nation to vote, serve on juries and hold public office. "

UWyo has a small, yet beautiful greek row area - however, there are many more chapters than there are houses in that area, so many chapters are quite spread out around the rest of town, but the official Greek Row itself is very nicely done.
To live in Wyoming, you must like wind - because it's always there, always blowing. Laramie County CC actually has all it's buildings connected together by covered walkways due to the wind - especially in winter - that is COLD. |
Laramie sits at about 7000 ft. above sea level.
I heard a great story about once when Jerry Tarkanian (Tark the Shark) brought his UNLV basketball team to Wyoming to play. One of the player (obvious brain surgeon candidate) complained to the coach that they wouldn't be able to breath well at that altitude. Tark allegedly said -- with a perfectly straight face, "Don't worry about it, we're playing indoors." Bring your own oxygen. |
On top of that, it's the home of 'Frankie's Rocket Ranch', also known as Francis E. Warren AFB, where the 90th Space Wing's Minuteman III and Peacekeeper ICBMs lie in wait for the nuclear launch codes. The sites for the 'Mighty 90th are spread throughout southeastern Wyoming, northeastern Colorado, and the Nebraska 'panhandle'. That nondescript building in the distance might be a launch control facility. :)
