Hey Alums, got a question about your badge
 

Hi Everybody,

I've been an alum for a year now and I really miss wearing my badge. So I was wondering when and were and how often you guys wear your badge? Do you wear it to special occaisions? Office? Office parties? Religious services? Anything?

I wear my badge everywhere when I have on badge attire. I'm proud of it, so I'm not going to let it sit in my jewelry box gathering dust!

Unfortunately, the only time I dress up in Badge attire is at Fraternity functions, usually HomeComing and Founders Day!:(

I wear it to sorority functions and also to work on special days like Founder's Day, Chapter Installation, etc.

Same with me. Unfortunately, the last time was at a memorial service.

I do, however, have a small lapel pin (Delt Coat of Arms) that I wear whenever I wear coat and tie.

Good question. My answer is "no." Alpha Gamma Delta is very clear about what is appropriate badge attire and what isn't. If I'm going to be wearing anything Alpha Gam related--especially my Badge--then I want to be looking my very best. Badge attire shows the proper decorum and respect for what is the most visible symbol of membership.

I totally agree that the world is getting more and more casual. But to me, getting to pin your Badge on your suit is an excellent incentive to dress up! ;) (This is also coming from someone who works in an office environment where there is a frequent need to dress up--and therefore gets to wear her Badge quite often and proudly! :D)

No, I would never wear my badge with "business casual" attire. I'd go the opposite end of the spectrum and wear it on formal gowns instead ;-)

You guys who wear them a lot, do you wear them to work? I mean, are they appropriate in the office? And with or without dangles? When you say you wear them on Founders' Day etc, do you mean you wear them to the Greek ceremony for it, or just to the office on that day?

Sorry, I wanna know what other people do, so I can get away with wearing mine more often ;-)

I'm also TOTALLY wearing mine on my wedding day.

I am a teacher, and as many of you know A LOT of teachers dress super casual for work, but I am one of the ones that dresses up every day. I typically wear my badge at least once a week.

I wear mine to fraternity functions. For the professional world, Sigma Nu has an Alumnus service pin. Looks like this:

Maybe, if I'm lucky, my chapter will get me one of these things they're only 29.50:D

I am one of those teachers that dresses up in suits and dress pants 4 out of 5 days for work. I wear my Quill to work whenever I am dressed appropriately.

Now that I have gone back to school and am a graduate student, I don't dress up so often. We are encouraged to dress professionally for the program, so I still end up in Quill attire 2-3 days out of the week. The other days I wear a recognition Quill, my lavaliere, or even a shirt with AxiD on it somewhere.

I have never received negative feedback for showing my affiliation, but have occasionally answered polite questions.

I volunteer, so I get to wear my pin at recruitment for area chapters, events, convention, etc. And of course, you can always wear your badge on NPC badge day and your Founders Day. One of my pledge sisters got married in November, and we wore our pins on our dresses :)

I'm just curious...At my alma mater, the sororities always wore their badges on Greek Letter Day (once per week). The sisters wore letter sweatshirts or t-shirts with khakis or jeans, and they always had on their badges. From what I've read here, this would be frowned upon. Am I right? On Fridays, the sororities dresses up. I can see the badges then, but I'm curious about the Letter Day attire.

We NEVER wore badge AND letters. Because letters were "casual" and the badge is only to be worn with business attire or better.

And also, it was considered bad form to wear two types of letters anyway. Like you never wore letters with a sorority hat, or letters with lettered sweatpants. Or a lettered t-shirt under a lettered sweatshirt.

were these national or local groups? :eek: some chapters permit khakis as pin attire, but (except for pledge pins) NEVER jeans.

When I was a collegian (WAY back when) all sororities dressed up and wore their badges on Monday. I think that's a tradition that should be revived. We were taught that it should be letters or badge, not both.

I have no problem wearing my badge with "business casual" we do it at convention even. I have one that I wear as a pendant that's les dressy than my original one and I wear it all the time to work. As long as I'm not wearing jeans, I don't have a problem.

AND, dressing casual and "looking your best" are not mutually exclusive. I dress casual at work every day, but I still look my best.

Now, up here we are, in general, a much more casual society than other areas of the country........
