Active for Four Years....
What's the deal in everyones GLO for a sister/brother that has been active for four years, still in school, yet can't afford anthor year of dues, but dosen't want to go inactive? One of the sisters that I am closest with is having this probelm right now....how dose your GLO handle this kind of thing?

I know in my Chapter and many others, a payment plan is put together to see if that is workable.
We as Brothers do not want to see someone who has spent at least 4 years not be able to stay as an Active member of the Chapter. One can only hope for the best and that it can work.:) |
Well we do offer the option of early alum status... but you have to write to national and get the approval of Judicial board to do so. BUT if you don't want to go inactive you can take chapter status and you only have to pay national dues and a portion of chapter dues that way you save yourself some money and time because you also don't have to attend as many events as an active sister when you are on chapter status. Another consideration is to have a fundraiser to help women pay their dues We did this thing were you have scratcher tickets and sell a "scratch" on the ticket for a dollar then the people get prizes like free food and movie tickets and stuff.. that way only the women who need help paying have to participate. These are the only options I can think of having phi sig national policies in mind SDT may have other rules that you may have to consider ... but if she doesn't want to go inactive... I think it limits her options. Hope this helps !! I fell the pain !

My diamond (big) sister went alumna after four years, even though she was still in school, but because she had served four years as an active and done everything required of her (dues, philanthropy, etc..). I think with us (don't quote me though) you have to actually petition to stay active after four years. Like if you transfer schools and you still have two years left but you've been active for three. I'm pretty sure I was told this.

I wrote a bylaw for my chapter that allowed for a member to declare "early alum" status after 4 years in the chapter. We didn't want brothers that did not want to be active -- dead weight. Those still attending school are still responsible for paying their insurance and other national fees.

We HAVE to go alum after four years. I'm not sure if this is a Tri Delta rule, a Panhel rule or a local chapter rule. Given the amount of super-seniors we have here, though, chapters could easily be way over total if this wasn't the case.

In order to receive early alumna status for my chapter, you have to be active for 5 years. There are plenty of girls who take that long too. Otherwise, you can write to EO for Inactive Status for a certain time period or you can ask for Special Consideration from your local chapter which means you only have to pay national dues and insurance. You are also required to come to less events (since we're based on a point system). It seems to work for most everybody that's had to use these options in my chapter.

We have a payment plan to allow a member to be active with the Chapter as long as he can get his Balance down to Zero at the end of the semester. He has to make arrangements with the Treasuer(of in our case: V.P. of Finance) prior to the start of the Semester. |

We "sort of" have to go alum after four years - meaning that if there's a "legitimate" reason you haven't finished your degree in 4 years, you can stay on as a fully active sister, but if not, you can be a social member but can't hold office etc. "Legitimate" reasons include changing majors, double majoring, or going for a combined bachelor's/master's degree.
Hope everything works out for your sister. |

Yes it is true that in adpi you have to apply to stay active a 5th year... |
We have the option of Early Alum status after 5 semesters of being active with no questions asked.
