Where is Respect
 

Brothers and Sisters, what has happened to respect for one another, especially our senior citizens, the ones that fought so hard so we could have better. I am on the bus, on my way to work. There are loads of teenagers, some letting their bag occupy another seat. An elderly woman gets on. I am already standing so I can't giver her my seat. The bus driver asks one of the young girls if she would give her seat up. Her response is Why should I? I paid my fare like everyone else. I don't know about you all but my mother would have slapped me coming and going for saying something like that. Another girl on the way home a few weeks ago cursed like a drunken sailor the whole ride. Her friend tried to get her to chill but she snapped on her!!! Is it society? Is it being raised up the wrong way? please, somebody enlighten me!

It seems as though this type of behavior has become so common in society today. I've heard about this and similar incidents time and again, and it is sad. I was raised to respect all people, especially my elders.
Some young people leave a lot to be desired. There are so many things they are lacking, and home training, self-respect, and knowledge are three that quickly come to mind.

Could it be our music?

I'm so glad that I ran across this topic. I'm really disappointed in my black people. As black people(regardless of age) why do some people do the stupid things they do knowing that blacks are already steroetyped, degraded, hated on, and always used as an example about something negative.

By the way, I don't even know if the young people you are talking about were black but, I had to get that off my chest.

Speaking of respect guess what I had to do today????

I was at a luncheon for my Chapter's first meeting since we let out for summer, okay so a few of us were on the line for lunch and out came the lady from the kitchen explaining they made one too many special plates for us (special because some Sorors could not eat from the regular/base menu). I knew the next words out of her mouth were going to be 'would anyone like this' so my hand shot up and I was salivating for that special plate, but an older Soror was on line and wanted the food too, though I was first to raise my hand; I gave up that plate. This was a rare form of respect but still a form of respect. And if you are a Soror you know why I had/felt the need to do this. It is just that respect that we should have (or should have) for our seasoned Sorors. And of course I carry that respect outside of Chapter; that was just how I was taught I am not sure what is up with these young folk now-a-days....oh well

Disrespect is where God is not, you must remember it starts when we are little children... the process of putting a moral center in the lives of children fails. By the time they get in their teens they think that they don't have to accept or listen to authority.
