Crazyocutie's real rush... Finally
Yesterday was greek forum. That was really neat and overwhelming. There were soo many girls there. They were all pretty overwhelimed. I met with my Rho Gamma. Her name is Stacy and she seems really nice. I start all of the real rush activities today. I have to meet up with my RG at 8:30 in the morning in front of the Pi Phi house. I will update again a little bit after six tonight. I don't want to promise anything though because I haven't even finished unpacking. EEK!

Do all of the sororities have houses? It looks like from their addresses that some do and some don't
|
Not all have houses. There are 10 sororities and 4 are houseless (DG, Kappa, Theta, ChiO). They're supposed to be building an extension onto our sorority row within the next couple of years to accomodate the houseless fraternities and sororities on our campus. In the meantime, the houseless sororities borrow some of the fraternity houses during rush.
|
Do the houseless sororities still get to live together in the dorms? Why are some houseless? Just curious. Thanks :D

Unfortunately, UCF has a huge housing problem. The campus has experienced so much growth and it's trying to compensate for the new freshman classes that are coming in. UCF has been building new dorms but they're not for sororities.
UCF's campus is completely planned out already...it's just a matter of building everything. Greek Park was built very small and only a few fraternities and sororities have houses (the majority don't have a house). The last property on Greek Park was bought in the early 90's by Kappa Sig. Greek Park 2 is in the plans but they've had a lot of setbacks in getting it built. It's been a rollercoaster ride trying to get it built (I'm sure adpiucf would agree!). UCF has a ton of wetlands and nature preserves. Our UCF environmental club has tried to block every Greek Park 2 proposal from going through. Now, I'm all for the environment and stuff but Florida is one big, swampy wetland. Why do they want to save this one? The only chapters to have houses are ZTA, ADPi, KD, AZD, PiPhi, Tri-Delta, Kappa Sig, SAE, Pike, Sigma Chi, Sig Ep, and ATO. This leaves Kappa, Theta, ChiO, DG, Sigma Nu, Lambda Chi, FIJI, Phi Delt, DTD, Pi Kapp, TKE, Delta Upsilon, AEPi, Beta, Lambda Theta Phi, Lambda Sigma Upsilon, Sigma Lambda Beta, and the countless NPHC and multi-cultural greek chapters still unhoused. It's a huge problem and it effects rush greatly. Also, many sororities do not want to colonize on our campus if they're not assured a house within a reasonable amount of time. Big problems because we are need of more sororities. We have 10 and we still have pledge classes that range from 65-71 girls and chapters that are at 190 sisters!!!! |
Good luck, crazyocutie!! I hope you have a wonderful time today and all week.:)

i heard...
I heard that Greek Park 2 hasn't been built yet b/c a species of endangered turtles live there and they cannot be displaced.
Just what I heard. C |
Rumor has it that there was 1 turtle left but he hasn't been seen in years. I dunno. Maybe sherbertlemons or adpiucf know more.
|
Oh the Turtles!
For YEARS, it was rumored that an endangered species of turtle had made its home across the street from ATO, Sig Ep and Sigma Chi-- the very land where the Office Of Greek Affairs had proposed Greek Park expansion.
THERE ARE NO TURTLES!!!! As ZTAngel said, UCF faces a very unique challenge-- it is growing at an astonishing rate. We nicknamed UCF "Under Construction Forever" due to rising popularity, prestige and student population at the university. UCF is a commuter school no more. I was very proud to attend UCF during the time when buildings, housing, parking garages and even our student union grew up around me, practically overnight. Student housing is in such demand, in fact, that the university purchased two off-campus apartment complexes (with multiple phases and buildings!) just to keep up. I think constructing new sorority and fraternity houses would help ease the student housing shortage, but it still needs to be determined "where" Greek Park 2 will be. Currently, off campus, in an area affectionately referred to as "the ghetto," are several fraternity houses. The guys lease a building of apartments and members reside there, and have their parties, etc., from these "Quad" apartments. IE: Lambda Chi, DTD, Pi Kapp, etc. Having a house in the ghetto is better than none at all, to be sure, but it is still much more of a status symbol to have on-campus housing. The sororities without houses on campus do not have houses here, but often, off-campus apartment complexes will set up a deal to have an entire bldg of a sorority there. Not all of the members live there (UCF sororities average just under 200 members and have enormous new member classes!), but it's a fun set-up nontheless, and b/c the chapters with houses on campus can't house everyone, even those sororoties will set up an apartment block at nearby apartment complexes. Those creative Greeks! So, to summarize, no TURTLES, no Greek Park 2, at least not for a while. |
