Forced to Live in a Double When Singles Are Available?
 

What would you do in this situation?:

You're a senior and you're moving into your house for the first semester. Everyone in your house could have their own room. However, the housing manager is making you double up with one other person while everyone else has a single and 4 rooms are empty.

How would you get a single out of this?

I guess I just don't understand the reasoning in this. Why are they forcing a double room if there are 4 empty rooms?

I would talk to the house manager or whoever is in charge of rooms and talk to them about the reasoning. Sometimes housing arrangements can be changed. They happen at my house.

Yeah, I don't understand the logic. Your house would be losing money having 4 vacant rooms. Do you have boarders coming in or will they be vacant the whole semester? I'd stress that you're a senior, that's got to count for something, even if it is only your first semester living in the house.

The logic boils down to the house manager being an ass. In the past, no one has had a single moving in their first semester. He sees it as a tradition thing while it has nothing to do with that.

You're right, the house manager is an asshole. Bring him in front of the standards board. I'm sure the guy you have to double with isn't too excited about the situation either.

Actually we did this one semester.. one sister didn't return to school and another moved out a month in because of her father's illness. So this left to singles, we asked the two girls to move in together that were left because we could shut off that room and save on heating and air for that room- not to mention the huge closet it had! And it also left for storage.
