After the Love is Gone.....

Just wondering about the men and the women. After the love is gone, what do you do to cheer yourself up?

Ex: I broke up with my ex about 4 months ago, and I went out and bought myself a new stereo for my car (which I needed). A new pair of glasses, a trip to Vegas, and a new jacket (for the fall).

Does anyone else out there besides me buy themselves things to cheer them up after a bad break up or after a really bad fight?

I do that.... but then again I love shopping! However, I think the best way to get over someone is to do things that make you feel good about yourself.

Even though I run and work out on a regular basis, I tend to work out more after a breakup. I also find myself dressing up more and taking more time on my hair and makeup. I think it's about feeling like you're still desireable to the opposite sex.

My ex and I broke up at the end of March and at first, I was like guy crazy. I went out with several different guys and then after a month or so, I got it out of my system and calmed down a bit. I think it's just kind of assuring yourself that you've still got it.

Or maybe that's just me? haha :)

Never go into debt over a man and a break up...

But that is the time when you need to have "self-care" and do an introspection of yourself to lift yourself up...

Read and re-read Iyanla Vanzant's In The Meantime and you will realize exactly where you need to be given your circumstances...

What I did when I broke up was to get my hair, my nails and a pedicure... Then work on a massage and facial with a bikini wax... Then I would buy some VS's or Frederick's or La Perla's and I'd hook myself up--'cuz you outta look really good when a guy breaks up with you--'cuz if he does and you look good, hell, evry'body is naturally gonna think it was his loss and you're better off...

I listen to emo punk usually the End is Forever album by The Ataris. Then I move on to slow jams and cry my fucking eyes out since they can also be depressing. Some depressing slow jam songs are Still and One Last Cry by Brian McKnight. After I'm done running the sadness out I try to find something to get my head up and get me moving again.

Never that! That was all with CASH! LOL!

Anyways, it makes me feel better and its something that I always do. I mean, to buy something really big after a break up. Then, IF I choose to speak to him again, I simply say thanks for so and so. Followed closely by, what do you want.

BUT thats just me!

After I broke up with my last boyfriend, I spent my time either by myself (because I wanted to avoid the inevitable, "So...are you still dating that guy?") or at the barn with the horse. And yeah, I did buy myself a little "treat"--a new red pair of Doc Martens that I had been eyeing. Couldn't help it. :p

Well this is a coincidence...lol i just got dumped last night...anywho i talked to a bunch of my guy friends and they cheered my up, with compliments and such...and then i just tried to spend most of today being busy so i don't think about it...

i clean up. i throw away everything that reminds me of him. for example: my bf and i are separating. so i am actually throwing away cds. i gave some to my sister. i am getting rid of clothes, pictures, movie stubs, cards, anything! i am shedding my old self. a new girl is about to be reborn!!:D

other things that i am coincindentally (SP?) changing that reminds me of him. in other words, these happenings have great timing!

1) i am relocating for my job
2) i am getting a new car (WAHOO!!!!!!!!!)

Listen to Liz Phair's Exile in Guyville, go out with some friends, and forget about him.

Hey, it always worked for me. :p

I got into the habit of cutting/dyeing my hair after relationships ended...it works pretty well.

I have that book autographed by her. I started reading the book, but I never finished it.

After the initial moping around/listening to depressing love songs/your songs, I go out and live it up with my girls!

HAHA after spending the insurance's money on mostly useless grief counseling, I think their money would have been better spent on new clothes for me -- whenever I felt down this summer, I went to the mall and bought something new!
