What to weat

My school has a informational this Thursday and from previous entries i know to wear neutral colors. However, i am confused about the difference between an interest meeting and an informational. are they the same thing? And if so, am i allowed to wear pant suits to the informational. What do most people wear.Thank you very much for your time

I have been told repeatedly that it's preferable if you wear a skirt (suit). You were right to stick with neutral colors i.e. gray, charcoal, beige. Sorry I couldn't help with the informational vs interest meeting question.

An informational is exactly what is sounds like. It is to inform you about Alpha Kappa Alpha, the chapter & the requirements for membership. An interest meeting/rush is where you submit an application for membership.

Yes, neutral colors should be worn and I also would suggest that you wear a skirt/dress suit. This is your time to make a first impression...show them that you are ALL about business.

Good Luck!!

muldoon, may I ask where you are from....you don't have to detail city and school, state will be good enough, or e-mail me if this mode of communication is too wide open for you. I ask this because I want to know why Sorors would still be advertizing Informationals and Interest meetings, as far as I am concerned these types of settings do not exist any more. I heard it from the RD's (regional director) mouth. Let me know if this is a North Atlantic thing or are Undergrad Sorors just not abiding by the rules. In other news ->I suggest any Alpha Kappa Alpha event that you attend you go dressed to impress. Suits are great, but if you are doing a volunteer activity, don't come too dolled up - you gotta get your hands dirty http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

LadyAKA,
I have attended undergraduate schools in both Louisiana and Tennessee. At both schools "Interest Meetings" were posted around campus. It was only recently that I have heard it referred to as an Interest Meeting/Formal Rush.

LadyAKA 09-06-2000 10:43 AM

Well that is what I am talking about "recently"!
Most schools (should be all schools) in New York don't have socials/Informationals/
Interest meetings any more...it is sad but it is true, I guess some are not implementing it.

This was not addressed to me, but, in the North Atlantic region, informationals and RUSH is ADVERTISED. I attend a university in the North Atlantic region and I am familiar of others schools in the area that do so as well. I am sure many interests, such as I am surprised that RUSH and or informtionals are not "suppose" to be advertised. Or are you saying they are not suppose to exist? Without being to direct, could you please elaborate? if not, I understand, but that is news to me! Thank you.....

AKAtude 09-06-2000 11:51 AM

A Rush is often referred to as an Interest Meeting. I remember using both terms to mean the same thing. Now, informationals, from my understanding are not suppose to exist. LadyAKA, I know where you are coming from.

Soror,

I sent you an e-mail you might be interested in regarding this issue. I hope you got it.

LadyAKA 09-06-2000 01:59 PM

Clarification CHECK -
In my previous post I was stating that socials/Informationals and Interest meetings are no longer what occurs on undergrad campuses or at least should not be occuring.
I was not trying to imply that RUSH is not an official event. It is, but that is the only event. Now if you are using the other terms it should be in conjunction with other greeks as Anydaynow stated about her campus, meaning there is no offical Interest meeting anymore and if Sorors on your campus are still posting flyers in this matter with those words then it is wrong!
Soror AKAtude I think you made the best assumption in that women (sorors and friends) are still using both terms and thus confusing the situation. Rush is the only Offical Alpha Kappa Alpha event. If you have any further questions please e-mail me or feel free to ask the Sorors on your campus about this.

Sisterly

We can have one as long as it is not solely an Alpha Kappa Alpha informational. Like at my school we have greek week and we have ours with the Alphas so technically it isn't just an Alpha Kappa Alpha informational.
