Job Interview attire question- Part 2

Do I have to wear hose?

This is not an interview with an ultra-conservative company. The usual attire is "business casual."

For the interview I'll be wearing a dark grey skirt suit (the skirt is about knee length) and black pumps.

If I did wear hose, they'd have to be nude I guess, considering the outfit and the season, but I HATE nude hose. Especially in August when I'll already be hot enough in a suit.

Do I really have to wear them? I'm young (straight out of college) and it's not like I have gross spider veins that need to be hidden or anything.

Would it be risky to go without?

I'd wear the hose. Even though it's not a conservative-dress company, you want to look professional while you're in the process of securing the job.

If you want to spend major money, I think Wolford has nice nude hose, but they are very expensive. Have you also looked at Donna Karan's Nudes?

Should I just go for the sheerest possible nudes and then bring an extra pair incase I get a run during the day?

Da, just picture what you will look like in the minds eye of the person you are interviewing with!:)

You look the best you can! Period!

Now, if you wear NO HOSE, what else may you not be wearing under your clothing?

People come in as if I am hiring!!!!

I dont tell them that if AssWholes, you cut that rag of hair, wore your shirt in, didnt have a rag on your head, and your pants were hanging below the crack of your ass, shave that scraggly shit of hair off of your face, I may look at you! Oh, forgot all of the tatoos and peircings!

You Be the Judge!;)

Yes, good strategy. If you get a run, you can excuse yourself and change quickly in the bathroom.

Ditto!

Sorry to say, but it ain't about being comfortable. Part of the "corporate uniform" is just like the reason we give kids for wearing uniforms to school. You don't want to be a major distraction.

I work in HR in a business casual environment, but I look twice at someone who comes for an interview and is not professionally dressed.

Just in general- not for a job interview-

If the office dress code is business casual, do you have to wear hose to work in summer if you wear a knee-length skirt?

Check with your HR dept. and observe other co-workers.

My company (publishing/media) is business casual, and I've sometimes gone w/o hose with a knee-length or longer skirt. Just make sure your legs are shaved or Nair'ed.

Always go for the hose... As sticky as they are, I think it's always better to err on the sticky side. Once you get the job, I'd say they're less needed, but just observing people this summer in DC, a lot of professional women do wear hose in the summer.

Good luck with your interview--I'm a junior at W&L. Congrats on your graduation... I'm not sure who you are but Theta is an awesome chapter at our school (I worked with two W&L Thetas this summer!).

Wear the hose

There is a big difference in what you wear to the interview and what you end up coming to work in every day. We are completely busines casual and people even wear jeans to work, but never anything less than something very nice for an interview. If hose doesn't work for you, try a dressy pantsuit. That would be fine, too.

I have an interview tomorrow, and I'm not wearing hose... I asked my mom and she said I didn't have to... so I'm not.

what kind of job is the interview for?

ETA more generally about the topic- If you're wearing a suit with a skirt, rule of thumb- wear pantyhose! If you need to dress up to the point of wearing a suit, you'd better wear pantyhose. It's just professional and much more polished looking.

You only have one chance to make a first impression.

It's for a news station... I was set on not wearing any hose, but after reading everyone's posts, I probably will wear them. I just hate wearing hose in the summer!

I say go for hose -- both of you. I work in a newsroom everyday and while you won't wear hose if you get the job, you should dress for success! It's just an hour. :)
