Guilty or Not Guilty?

A couple of days ago in the metro Atlanta area a 2 year old child died (heat related) as the result of being left in a car with the windows up for over 9 hours in the parking lot of her place of employment. The grandmother, who was also the child's caretaker, says that she forgot to take the child to daycare. She has not been charged, as of yet, with any crime.

Do you feel that she should be charged with the crime or do you believe that you can leave a child in a car all day and not remember your daily routine of taking the child to day care?

I'll have to watch the news to see if they give her age and any medical problems that she may have had that caused memory problems, because I am definitely not feeling her reasoning.

I am so sorry, but if I were the judge I don't think I could throw the book hard enough at her. How could she forget to bring the child to daycare?? You wouldn't leave a dog in a car for that long! And just how hot was it on this particular day? At some point and time during her 9 hour work day, wouldn't it have crossed her mind that the baby was left in the car? Did someone, anyone in the parking lot not see this baby literally sweating to death in this car? Now, if grandma had a medical problem that causes memory lapses/loss, wouldn't someone in the family know this? You stated she was the girl's caretaker. I don't know the circumstances behind that but if there is a medical problem, there is no way she should have been the sole caretaker of this two year old, let alone in charge of driving her to school. If she can forget she has her two year old grandbaby for 9 hours in a sweltering automobile, there's no telling what a danger she can be to herself as far as forgetting she has something on the stove, or that she has left the iron on. I sure hope she is not in the early stages of Alzheimers, that would be terrible. However, if there is nothing wrong with her I would put this lady UNDER the jail so she can think long and hard about what she has done!

I heard that story on the news too. I also remember that happening on a regular basis a few years back but with no fatalities. Now if the grandma has no medical problems then yes I agree...she should be punished severely! On occasion I have gone to the grocery store and forgot to get a bag out of the car when I got home...the worst I had was melted ice-cream or thawed out meat. This is a child's life not a bag of groceries!!!

I agree that this is so tragic, but I hope that they investigate whether or not she has a medical condition. Maybe she has the onset of Alzheimers. If she had that, then there were some warnings and the parent/s are equally as responsible.

How awful! I agree with Sexy Mocha. If she has a medical problem then at least there may be a reason, but there is no excuse for this incident. I've heard of similar stories where parents did the same thing and they are charged and convicted. PinkCashmere, I'm not feeling her reasoning either.

My God,
I concur that I would throw that book so hard at the lady. I can't believe that things like this happen to children. I could care less if she was old or had a bad memory, that is just a horrible way to die. That poor little baby. And 9 hours is a long time. How do you forget a child like its a piece of clothing or a pen, able to be replaced at any time. i'm sure she feels terrible about all this. Her guilt will be with her for the rest of her life. Think of the things that child will never experience. I want to cry.
