Chance Meetings
 

I was at Home Depot today with my mother, looking at plants, and suddenly behind me I heard someone say, "Have you found any white violets?" I thought... huh? I already have some, and why would someone ask about them?

I turned around to see a woman who works there and at the exact moment I had guessed why she mentioned white violets, she said, "I was a Zeta at UT". She must have seen the t-shirt I was wearing with Zeta Tau Alpha on the front while I was looking around at plants.

So she told me she had moved out of state for a while, and then back again, and that she hopes to get involved in an alumnae group sometime. She also said she teaches Psychology at the community college near where my family lives, and I thought that was so neat because I'm a Psychology major.

It just amazes me every time I meet a Zeta in the most random of places, when I least expect it. I always get this warm, fuzzy feeling inside and I feel as though I've known these people my entire life. I thought that was rather clever of her to say something about the white violets to get my attention. :D

Just a couple of weeks ago I met a lady who was one of the founders of our local chapter at Bath & Body Works, and she had guessed I'm a Zeta because of the Strawberry Shortcake t-shirt I was wearing.

Last summer I met a lady during a tour of some pioneer fort place, and she was in a ZTA chapter in another state. Then I found out that one of the mothers of a child at the daycare I worked at had been in another Tennessee ZTA chapter also.

Isn't it wild the places we meet? It just really makes my day, because we can have such instant bonds with people we otherwise may have never talked to or noticed! :D

Tell about some of your "chance meetings" with other Zetas!!!

A few weeks ago another ZTA and I were in line in a ice cream shop in Disneyland. We both had ZTA sweatshirts tied around our waists. A woman came up to us in line and asked us where we were ZTAs. We told her our collegiate chapter (Theta Omega) and well as the chapters we advise (Theta Omega and Kappa Theta). It turns out that she is one of the founding members of Kappa Theta chapter!

I am so excited that I was able to meet her. She is moving back into the area and would like to get involved with the chapter again!

My husband and I are trying to sell our house so my husband made me pack up a bunch of my Zeta things. (I had them in every room of the house.) I've managed to keep a few things around though. I have a cross-stitch of the crest hanging in my office, bunches of ZTA magnets on the fridge and tons of older Zeta memorabilia in a curio cabinet in our living room.

My husband held an "open house" yesterday afternoon and when one lady saw the crest, she got all excited and asked him who the Zeta was in the house. He told her about me and he found out that she is from our chapter at Lamar in Beaumont. I hope to get her to join our alumnae chapter since I'm membership this year. I hope she buys my house, too!
