Help with Savannah, GA
I'm going to be in Savannah, GA Aug 13-16 for our National Convention. I was wondering if anyone in the area could direct me in stuff to do while there. Also if there are any Greek Chatters in the area who would like to meet up let me know by Noon Monday and we can probably work something out.

Savannah is a very charming city. Be sure to visit River Street. Lots of shops, places to eat, etc. by the river ;)
|
I don't know anything about Savannah, but when you get back tell me all about it because that's where our convention is next year!!!!!
Have fun!! |
Yes, PLEASE share your Savannah adventures with us! I've only been there once, and it was a quick overnight. I'd dearly love to really see the town; I've heard so many precious things about it!

River Street and the bars down town are the best places. Savannah mall is ding so if you want to go to a mall go to ogelthorpe mall. The Beach is not far away either so thats always an option as well.

Rent or read 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil'. It's a non-fiction work based on Savannah and may spark some interesting side-trips for you.

Be prepared for hot and sticky weather! And/or rain;) :D
You probably won't be doing this but I'd prefer to stay in a bed and breakfast than a regular hotel. We did and we loved it. It was a block off of the main road but very quiet. And Hilton Head is just up the road! If you had time, you could go down to down to Ft. Frederica and St. Simons, where the first "Georgians" landed. The Methodist Church was founded at Christ Church..outside of St. Simons. It is very beautiful and peaceful there. |
My family and I just got back from St. Simon's Island. We stayed at the King and Prince in the Oleander building--very nice. We ate at Mullet Bay--great fried shrimp. We ate at Barbara Jean's--best crab cakes (no fillers).
I've been to Savannah once about 18 years ago. Pretty city--we attended a convention, so most of our time was planned. I do remember the beautiful park as well as the homeless people begging for $$ there--kinda unnerving! Another thing that made an impression was the gigantic barge floating down the river. We were on one of the top floors of our hotel which overlooked the river. The barge was transporting a gazillion 18-wheeler trailers--they looked like toys! |
St Simons is in Brunswick area so I doubt he would want to drive that far. Even thous St Simons is cool. Great Beaches. Tybee Island is alot closer for him to go to.

Be sure to go on at least one of the ghost tours. The Haunted Pub Tour is fun if you want to drink while you're being entertained with ghost stories. :)
You can also have dinner on a riverboat cruise, buy some homemade fudge and candy confections on River Street, and visit some of the historic homes in the area. Savannah is a beautiful old city with a very interesting history. You'll have a blast. :D |
I'll let the guys who are 21 know about the haunted pub tour. I wish I was 21 so I could take part in those festivities that go along with convention.
|
One of the pubs burnt down about 3 weeks ago so that will make the tour a little smaller.lol
|
the best time to go is St Patrick's Day
it's like Mardi Gras down there |
