"Flava dolls"

I think that we should have a few moments of prayer for the ignorant a$$ that came up with this ignorant idea....

Now I loved me some Barbie back in the day....but this is going WAY too far....

I saw the commercial for this today & I was so offended! I mean it's like a joke, something out of a Mad TV skit or something. For a stereotype to exist there has to be some truth, but why exploit that small number that is the "truth"?? I mean the dolls speak "ebonics" while "gangsta" rap plays in the background! And the white flava doll looks like Christina Aguilera when she had her braids. You may not know what you're feeling when/if you see this commercial but, you know something is not right!

Now the commercial does sound offensive, but what's wrong with the idea of the dolls themselves? Hip hop culture is youth culture, and Mattell is only going after the youth market - does anyone remember the "Barbie and the Rockers" dolls that came out in the mid to late 80s? They all had new-wave hair and clothes? The Flava dolls seem (to me) just a variation on the same theme.

I personally think that these dolls are tasteless. I wouldnt buy it for my little sister! I understand trying to be diverse and make a doll for everyone but honestly who do you think designed these dolls??!! And one doll is named Kiyoni Brown  she has blonde hair(not a really big deal) and a big chain around her neck with an "iced out" K. This makes "us" (all minority groups) look like we all come from the ghetto. What was wrong with Barbie's black friend Christine? She was a nice looking black doll with black hair and hazel eyes. Mattel has gone too far this time... and has anyone noticed that Barbie's mom had 6 kids  ( including the son that they dropped)??? For those who know the old school and new school ones... Barbie, Skipper, Stacie, Todd, Kelly, and Chrissy.
