my dumb mouth
so this is the third canker sore i have had this month. i am not a happy person about this.
so i looked it up on the internet and it said that you can get a lot of them due to a weakened immune system and for women, right before their periods. and that eating yogurt is good. so i have had mono (not fun) for the last couple months so that is the weakened immune system thing and i am on my miss period right now. i eat yogurt too....it's yummy. so my question is : HOW DO I GET RID OF THEM? well the one that i have right now but it hurts like hell and i dont know what to do. anyone have any good remedies? ***does a rememdy dance*** |
Canker sores are a form of ulcers, and I always got them in relation to stress. Obviously cutting back on stress is good, but there are some ways to alleviate the discomfort.
Kanka works pretty well but it is spendy. I found the BEST and most affordable method is a bottle of Tincture of Benzoin. You can get a large bottle at a full service drugstore or some pharmacies. You put some of the brown liquid on a cotton swab, and dot it on the canker sores. It will burn and I always teared up but it is an oral mucosal coverant. It has quite a bit of alcohol in it as well. Tincture of benzoin is the main ingredient in Kanka and similar products, but Kanka has benzocaine as well to cut the pain. I once had 27 canker sores in my mouth, so I know how unpleasant this is. |
27? omg! just from being stressed? or what? i would die if i had 27. this one is on my bottom lip where the lip and gum kinda mesh together. hurts when i bite into stuff cause of where it is. pretty big too..
i am gonna see i f i can find that stuff..i am getting ready to go shopping right now. thanks...i will let you know what happens!! ***dance the go-away-canker-sore dance*** |
I used to get them all the time. Haven't had one in a long time now, so there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
For quick temporary relief, I used Listerine. It burned like heck when applied, too, and tastes nasty -- but it really deadened the pain in a hurry. |
I had one at the roof of my mouth once. Every time I would talk, my tongue would hit it and send a shooting pain all across my mouth. For about a week, I talked with a lisp to avoid touching my tongue to the canker sore. I just let it go away naturally.
I find that I usually get mine when I'm stressed. |
I get these all the time - they suck! I always get them in the corner of my lips and they hurt so much...I used to be in the band and trying to play trumpet with one was murder. I usually cover mine in Carmex and wait for it to go way.

Kanka rocks for really bad sores in inconvenient places. There is also something called Glyoxide (drugstores often have a generic version for less $$) that works for the not as bad ones. If you like self-torture you can always use plain old hydrogen peroxide (with these last 2, be sure to spit them out).
Also, whiskey helps, at least it does mine. :) Stay away from ketchup and acidy things, they hurt! |

really? Think it might be as a result of an std? Kinda like how cold sores are a form of herpes?
*getting a little worried now* |
They're not an STD. They're not herpes. And they're not contagious.
It's just something that happens. It's caused by a system imbalance from something you ate, stress, or fatigue. |
well i am home. i stopped at the pharmacy to see what she thought. she said i should try putting baking soda on it first. if that doesnt work then try kanka and the other stuff...she just said at least i dont have to spend money yet. i love that part
she said it is mostly a result from me having mono. esp since i told her my eating habits havent changed. you know..this mono thing needs to go away...causing me too many problems!! thanks for all the advice! you guys rock! it's not herpes.... |
