Need funding for school
I just received word that my financial aid will not cover all of my expenses for the new school year. Does anyone know of some quick funding you can get for school? I know about personal loans but my credit isn't the greatest for that. I'm stressing big time!
Thank you in advance. |
Try your schools financial aid office and ask for information on short term or emergence loans. These loans are ususally separate from F.A. packages.
All you should need is varification of income. There shouldn't be a need for any type of credit check. This way you can find out if you have access to funds on campus before looking elsewhere. [This message has been edited by Hope (edited August 07, 2000).] |
For personal reasons I graduated 1 semester late and all my TAP (tuition assistance) was tapped out, I did the loan thing, and yes, I already had loans and the my credit was not all that, but I made it through. The financial aid office is the place to be, show up every day asking for money, write letters, see if you can work for credit ... not to make a joke or be funny but someone will feel sorry and give you some type of aid. Hey I have been there and a student has to do what she has to do!!

This is tooo funny! I was in school ALL day trying to get my financial aid together! The lady in the financial aid office told me to go to admissions and speak with the person in charge of the grants that my school gives out (not the state/government). The financial aid lady told me to "act the fool" if I had to, but try to get them to give me some "free" money. She also said to claim hardship as much as possible. (I went in there and cried to them folks!) I was not playing! Turns out, there are a lot of school-based grants. The higher your GPA, the more grants you qualify for. Try talking to someone in your school about this. Good luck!

This is helping me out SOOOOO much. I was unaware of grants available through your school. I am a senior with a 2.8 GPA - maybe that is high enough to qualify for something.
Thank you for the responses so far - if anyone know of anything else, pls let me know! Mocha - did you happen to get a grant? I think I might need to take a day off of work tomorrow and go to the admissions office to see if they have something available. |
I just discovered a website: www.absolutelyscholarships.com
type in your information and you will receive a list of all of the scholarships in their database that you qualify for. The service is free. [This message has been edited by mizzkes (edited August 08, 2000).] [This message has been edited by mizzkes (edited August 08, 2000).] |

I too, needed money for school. I will graduate next year and it seems like the funds seem to become more and more scarce. I went to the financial aid counselor and cried my heart out. At first they said that my husband and I made too much money last year therefore, I wasn't eligible for financial aid. My financial situation did a 360 degree turn. When I returned to the US, I lost an income. I didn't have any extra money to pay for school. As I said earlier, I cried begged, pleaded with this lady to give me some assistance. The only thing she could do for me was to defer my payments until after I graduate (which is a year from now). I still think I got a raw deal but it's better than nothing. I can concentrate on school and not worry about paying for it. Just my two cents.
Please go to your financial aid office and talk to them. Hey you never know. |
