fraternity rush question
Fraternity men--
When you all do your recruitment events, do you have sororities at your events as well? If yes, I would assume to portray your interaction with the women of greek life. Thanks! |
at my school, the only rule they have about rush is that women cannot be 'used' as recruitment tools ie: no girls at tables, no going to strip clubs as recruitment events, etc...so they cant have sorority girls at their events.

Yeah, we try to invite as many girls as possible. We definitely don't do it with any one particular house though. I'd say that the girls are there more for the actives, since they are already our friends and stuff (most of the time the girls that I've seen at rush events are the ones who always come to our events, or are going out with a guy in the house.)
It's one of those things that it can't hurt, even though it probably doesn't play that much into any rushee's decision. |
The fraternity I'm a sweetheart of always invites us to their open house and house dinner night (the two offical men's rush events, the rest of the week is just hanging out, going out with the brothers etc.) They also buy us one pizza dinner with all their favorite rushees right before they hand out bids (not the night before, but a few days, as kind of clencher). I think it's to make the atmosphere more laid back and to show that the guys are social. plus girls can be good at stirring up conversation about things other than rush etc. so it has more of a hanging out vibe. All the real "rushing" happens on a one on one basis, or during times that I never see. Whenever I'm around the convo is always light hearted.

Fraternities at my school can and do have women at their rush events. It usually wasn't the women of a particular sorority, but women in general (both greek and not).
Most fraternities would just ask their sweethearts, little sisters, girlfriends of brothers, etc. to come by the house for dinner or whatever, and they would make small talk with rushees. Even women they didn't specifically invite (especially freshmen women) were more than welcome to drop in, hang out, and enjoy the free food. The message to the rushees was clear: We're popular with the ladies. A few went all out, though, and did some questionable things. I have heard stories of fraternities renting limos that were sent to pick up rushees and bring them to the house, and in the back of the limo would be *ahem* "female companionship". I think that sort of thing has been cracked down on since my day, though. |
A few fraternities at my last campus did this - it was a lot of fun! I know SigEp went bowling for a rush event and it was free bowling and pizza so they got tons of sorority women to show up. (Platteville is boring, what can I say?) Most of the girls at their events were either pinned to a brother, dating a brother, good friends of a brother, or friends with a girl who was one of the above. The other fraternities tended to just invite their sweethearts/little sisters or have a party that was just for rushees and any interested female.
