Church to pay for certain members??

Last night on the BET nightly news, there was a report on a black church in Shreveport, La that is gonna pay whites $5 to attend their church on Sundays and $10 for midweek service. The pastor said he is doing it because the Lord led him to do it and he wants his congregartion to look as diverse as heaven. His church already had a bowling alley and restaurant. What do you guys think?

uugh!!

Somebody is trying to add a new BENTLEY to his collection.

that is ridiculous to have ANYONE pay to attend a church. to make the policy for whites i think is prejudice. if the tables were turned, we would be screaming racism all the way.

some one should ask the preacher if there is any scripture to indicate that JESUS asked anyone for a fee to listen to his sermons.

*lol* Is he for real?

I attend a non-denominational church that is diverse in membership (maybe 60/40 with whites being the majority) but its not because I was paid $5!

The church's actions and message is what drawn me to it. Maybe someone should tell the Pastor this?

What about just inviting a predom. white church to your service as a guest, do events together, etc in order to expose more non-blacks to the church? Save the $5 for an outreach or something.

As I am sitting up here in the church office getting ready to send a fax to my Pastor's PROBATION OFFICER to approve his August house arrest work schedule, I'm LMAO as I read this thread......

I am not surprised by anything these supposed "men of god" are doing. Our society has entered a whole new realm. We just need to know where to draw the line for ourselves and spirituality.

The minister is not making people pay to come, he is paying people to come to his church, as an incentive to increase the diversity of the membership. There's no cover charge at the door.

Personally, I can respect what the man is trying to do but I think he should find a more effective and acceptable way in which to do it. Bribing people to come to church is ridiculous. If he wants to increase the diversity of the church body, there are much better ways to do it. He could have the church members doing community service outside of their normal communities to target and serve other ethnicities. He could go to the local mall and hondout fliers and information on his church and their goals. The list is endless but handing out $5 bills during service is a little extreme. I wonder how the non-white members of the church feel about this.

I was embarrassed when I saw it on the news. If you take money to attend church, you don't need to be there because you are there for the wrong reasons.

And the pastor has that much money to pay white people to go to church? He needs to give it to charity! Aren't there homeless people in Shreveport? Give them jobs!

According toa little snippit in the Atlanta Journal Counstitution yesterday the members of his church are o.k. with this, and several white people in the town said they will come and he doesn't even have to pay them

11 AM on Sunday is the most segregated hour...

Today, in the newspaper it mentioned that of the few whites who attended, some of them refused the money orders. I guess their souls were stirred during the services. It was reported that most of the whites there were the news media. There were reporters there from as far as England.

One member of the cloth said that he thinks the way about this is all wrong. He felt that the church should go out and perfrom their "outreach" in the non-AA community.

They also had a quote in there from some guy that came from El Paso, TX. He "claimed" that they didn't come for the money; they came for the worship. HOWEVER, he didn't bother to turn down the $10.

I thought that the cost was just a flat rate of $5, but it is $5 PER HOUR!! What if church goes "overtime," like Easter service or something? Do you know how many people will be flocking there? One of the pictures just looked like PWT coming to "earn" some beer money.
