VW Golf

my parents are buying me a new car. I think im going to go with the VW Golf. Its very affordable and fuel effecient, and they look kinda cool. Im going for a test drive this weekend. Does anyone have a vw golf, or any vw? How do you like them? Have you had many problems?

Consumer Reports

I was just about to cancel my online subscription, but found this for you:

A well-designed small car, we can't recommend the Golf for now because its reliability has fallen off. It handles nimbly and has a supple, quiet ride. The interior has a high-quality feel--unusual in this price class. The seats are firm and supportive, but the rear is a bit cramped. The standard 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine is responsive but noisy and relatively thirsty. The sporty GTI model's 1.8-liter turbo and VR6 received a horsepower boost last year. The turbodiesel Golf TDI with a manual transmission averaged 41 mpg overall in our tests. Crash-test results are impressive. The new R32 is a high performance AWD model with a V6.

I have a 1995 VW Golf GL (Manual, NOT Automatic). It's been excellent thus far. However, given the above post, it would appear that they have "fallen down" in the quality dept, which is a shame. :(

The GTI is pretty solid (as is the jetta 1.8, which is the same engine as the low level audis)...just one comment, do not get an automatic golf - they are garbage!

I agree, do not get automatic golf. They'll break down too quickly. Then again, I always prefered manual car anyway. They're funner to drive.

I have a 2002 VW Cabrio and my sister has a 2002 VW Golf. Mine is an automatic and hers is a manual. We both LOVE our cars and would not trade them for the world.

Sorry to hijack this thread but does anyone have experience with the Jeep Liberty? I'm thinking of getting one. More specifically, how does it drive in the snow? I'm also looking for t\some of the same info that Matt asked.

Thanks!

I have a passat!

Hey dude!!Whats up?!
Well I have a 2002 Passat. It is a good car tho. The only thing is you have to use the highest grade fuel for the engine and nothing less. It gets good highway mielage .
Personally, I like the Golf by VW...I always thought those were the coolest looking.
Peace:)

I haven't reallly heard anything (good or bad) about Golfs. Next year I will be purchasing a Jetta, as I have heard nothing but praise from the people who own them.
